I'm having a serious case of gadget lust here.

Very impressive. Project Butter and Google Now look extremely promising. Wonder if it will launch here, and with the same aggressive pricing that is happening overseas?

What's it, like $200? Expect it to cost about 5 grand here then. You have to add the greedy **** tax.

Just under R1700, just opted for the 8 Gig one.

I am sure we will soon get it, Also you have an option to find companies that can send it to SA. There are plenty of them, I am just skipping the shipping charges. (Well and customs but we will not mention that one

Well, no adobe flash on the Nexus 7 (and ALL 4.1 Jelly Bean devices going forward). For those who say flash should just die, have a look at http://www.apple.com/html5 on your current android phone / tablet to see just how FRAGMENTED HTML5 is. Removing it from Android is just STUPID. Yes HTML5 might do many of the same things as flash, but I don't want to keep on changing BROWSERS on my phone / tablet to view HTML5 page1 in browser 1 to view video, page 2 in browser 2 to view 360degree images and page 3 in browser 3 to be able to play a game... And what if all of them are in one page? STUPID

Not Google's decision. It was Adobe's- they pulled the support.

Thank Adobe for that and come August you will not be able to get Flash for your current phone either, unless certified. See http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...oad-it-from-the-play-store-after-august-15th/

Adobe Will Not Support Flash On Android 4.1, Unsupported Devices Won't Be Able To Download It From The Play Store After August 15th

In November, Adobe announced that it would be discontinuing its development of Flash for Android, and it looks like that day has finally arrived.

In a post on their blog, the company has explained that devices which have been certified to run Flash will still continue to do so, and updates will be made available just for those devices. Any devices that have not been certified to run Flash will be unable to install or update it from the Play Store from August 15th.

According to the post, any device that has been certified to run Flash by Adobe will have come with the plug-in pre-installed, so if you had to install Flash manually through the Play Store, it means that you are running it on an uncertified device. Adobe has posted a list of all certified devices on their website.

If you have a certified device that may be upgraded to Jelly Bean in the future, Adobe recommends that you delete Flash when the update occurs, as no modifications have been made to ensure that it runs properly on the new operating system. However, there's no way that this can be enforced by the company and if Flash continues to work then there is no reason why you can't continue to use it.

Although this isn't great news for users who use Flash regularly, most video-on-demand services now offer mobile apps to replace websites which may use Flash, and there are very few things that you won't be access whilst online. If you want to install Flash from the Play Store after August 15th, you will still be able to sideload the installation file on to your device, as all previous versions of the .apk are stored on Adobe's website.

Also see Adobe's blog on the matter http://blogs.adobe.com/flashplayer/2012/06/flash-player-and-android-update.html

Noooo... it appears that shipping with those guys would at at least $100 to the price.

I'll just wait for someone to visit the US on holiday :/

Saw that too.. Thanks Elimentals for the info though.

Maybe get it off of Ebay?

I would not trust Ebay, also you gonna end up paying extra. Use a VPN and buy from Google direct to ship to your forwarder.

I would have offered to get her to bring more but she is already got 3 on the list, more would cause a customs stop for sure.

Full review over at The verge with a score of 8.8.

Wrap-up reads:

Google’s Nexus 7 isn’t just an excellent tablet for $200. It’s an excellent tablet, period. In fact, it’s the first Android tablet that I can confidently recommend to buyers — and not just because it’s got a low price tag (though that certainly helps). It’s a well-designed, powerful, and useful product, with lots of bells and whistles that makes it feel like a device that should be more expensive than it is.

There are still issues that need to be addressed — particularly around growing the tablet app footprint and expanding content offerings — but I don’t think those are deal breakers. The Nexus 7 delivers way more functionality than I expected, and it delivers it in a package that’s sleek, smart, and affordably priced.

Believe it or not, the last time I was surprised by a product with those same qualities, it was called the iPad.

Good Stuff
  • Incredible price
  • Jelly Bean is a big improvement
  • Solid design that feels great in your hand

Bad Stuff
  • Tablet app selection remains thin
  • New Play stores still don't offer enough content
  • Limited storage options

The only thing that I find dissapointing in the specs is the no 3G support. Would adding a 3G chip (maybe just a slower one) really have added so much to the price? In the US it is fine...but in a country where WiFi is still very very sparse...a tab with no 3G aint gonna be all that popular.
