The Node is dead – Altron to refund customers

Well, that didn't last long.

Sae this coming since the start think I said it in a thread here somewhere

Aah well, at least I am getting a refund. The content was identical to mtn frontrow, but you required a sub even for rentals plus that expensive decoder . I did prefer getting the content via satellite though, since streaming hd on home ADSL is still not a satisfactory experience for me.

Yea I was keen as well ; the unit was far too expensive though.

Also the fact they never had any of home automation things for sale.

It was actually a good product. That could actually live up against VOD as it didn't need Internet.

But of course they priced it like retards and had terrible adverts.

Also never tried in the end, eh? ;)

I remember you pushing me, hehe

Like I said it was a good product for those without Internet.

I have Internet though, so not for me :)

Essentially a business plan with an expiry date then. Only matter of time till netflix etc eats your lunch if your key advantage is internetlessness.

I'd love to get one of these for the home automation aspect. I'm sure they'll let it go for next to nothing just to recoup some costs.

Anybody have a contact7

Where would you get the home automation cameras etc? Do you know the cost?

I liked the idea and the hardware looked good.... I think in the end the content let them down...

My idea is to tinker with it to see what I can do

There's alot of things you can do with it actually, other than the automation, you can plug in your USB harddrives in there and play your media from there, it can connect to DLNA servers over the wifi...pretty much what these media-players do.

This unit got a 3G modem + wifi , so you can plug in a simcard and create a wifi network and internet access in one go.

It is running some sort of android flavor, so there are actually apps on there too, i.e. youtube/facebook (pretty much like a smart TV). So can technically turn a dumb tv into a smart one with this, although i guess we won't see any more apps being added, can probably look into putting another OS on there.

I guess unfortunately most of us probably have these things in some form. I prefer using my Xbox One for the media stuff, and i have ADSL modem for my internet, but if i was forced to go with 3G/LTE then i'd probably try use this device for it (as opposed to using these mini routers).
