The official Ubiquiti Devices Q&A Thread

Thanks, yes, that's currently what's set but I'm unable to monitor any DNS requests that way since the clients are simply polling the remote server and nothing is logged. It sounds like it's not possible with that unit. Perhaps I can do it with OpenDNS. Will explore.
When you say monitor DNS - you want to see each and every DNS request by each client? You could do that on Pihole for free

Yeah, I'm considering a pihole - yet another device to maintain and it's away from home so there's that, but agree, pihole is definitely an option here. I should probably replace my old 3B Pi and use that.

LMAO Ubiquiti only offered the option to set up a USG to handle DNS this year? Grief.
Hmm no I meant content filtering, blocking ads, all that can happen on the router. Maybe worth looking at where they are now as they offer far more functionality than they used to.

So if I’m understanding you, can I use the USG as a DNS server?

If you don't want to go that route you could consider using OpenDNS - although you need to install the client on a PC at that network to keep your IP address updated.

Apologies am not helping you. All the functionality I am referring to is on the new hardware being UCG not USG

5 years ago Ubiquiti was wifi, last year they introduced routers, this year the firmware was sophisticated enough to qualify as such.

Buy new hardware or get software to cater for the old hardware inadequacies as suggested.

Personally I run a UCG with DoH on NextDNS but could do all on the UCG native if that makes sense

Quick question, so been running Ubuntu for my home server and I'll be honest. Never really understood the local DNS name sitution. I would like to set it up and see on UniFi I can set a Local DNS record. Would this be the easiest way to do it?

Idiots guide to understanding this would be helpful, Nginx and Traefik already confuse me as well

Works perfectly on Unifi. Just create an A record with the host name you want + IP address. Or just select from your client list and configure there like the below example

If you want it to work across multiple VLAN's then just make sure mDNS is switched on each network (It usually is by default)

Hi all

Odd issue with WiFiman VPN to my UCG, if I connect via WiFiman the connection will be super slow and latency is In the 700-800ms range but connecting via Tailscale is around 60ms

The connection is on Telkom LTE with the unrestricted apn and a tp link router connected to the UCG but even with the unrestricted apn still gives me those high latencies via WiFiman and not Tailscale

Any help here as not sure what to do as WiFiman did work last week and got 40ms to the UCG from home

Also noticed something similar - the built-in VPN is super slow - but tailscale is much faster . Didn't try to find a fix tbh

As I mentioned earlier in the this thread, I'm selling a few pieces of older Unifi gear I no longer need. In the classified section, some posts are still awaiting validation.

Lekker! I haven't been on Bobshop in ages and my wallet is grateful - I plan on keeping it that way since my AP seems to be behaving again (touch wood)
