The plan to roll out fibre and security cameras in Soweto

free electricity and now free fiber connections also?

and soon new tender for replacing cameras :)

how come soweto residents chase eskom technicians away when they want to fix something, but not vumatel who are digging up the streets?

I cannot see this working! Before long contractors will be intimidated or all the equipment stolen. This is Soweto...

It's not for the residents, it's for organisations that enforce law or uplift the community like neighbour watches.
the cameras are a by-product of installed ftth, so you need ftth first, then the cameras come, so yes, it's for the residents.

Wrong. You still need the infrastructure first for which the residents will either be unwilling or unable to pay. Makes sense once you have a national footprint but these charity projects simply delay affordable internet for all. Also see the headline states fibre and security cameras so it will be like Mitchell's Plain except they'll say we will only pay you R50 and Vumatel will say well it actually costs us R200 but ok we'll take it.

I'm so done with these fcking clowns. Vumatel is in my area but I'll rather pay double for wireless than support them.

Yes, we used a BEE/incompetent and now we have lightning strikes on our cameras.

So they are putting up cameras to protect the community from themselves in Soweto.

Wondering why my suburb do not get free cameras to protect us from outsiders coming in to commit housebreaking, robbery, murder etc. ?

We had to contribute through our neighbourhood watch to put up cameras at strategic entry/exit points, and not to protect us from ourselves.

Early warning, when a suspect car leaves Soweto, you know it's on it's way to do some crime elsewhere.

Equating BEE with Incompetence is a generalization that’s just rude, insulting and unprogressive.
