The politics of hiring free engineers to help fix Eskom's breakdown problem

What needs to happen is the Hawks along with forensic auditors need to ascend on Eskom and sort out all the rot and corruption until all the corrupt fukks within Eskom are in jail, but not going to happen. The cANCer is to cowardly to actually pull off something like that.

I think for the most part he was employed with the honest intention of finding a capable manager to sort the place out. The constraints within which he must operate are however too onerous, doesn't matter what skin colour he is. Any colour CEO would find it hard to work at a place like that. I believe the guy from Canada or the Netherlands, I forget which, declined the offer due to those conditions the government refused to budge on. He wanted free reign and they refused so he said no.
Yup, everything at Eskom has to be fixed within the lens of politics. As much as the problems are massive, they could be fixed if the CEO didn't have one hand tied behind his back by having to navigate through all the various interest groups and politics of the organization. Most normal countries would view fixing power supply as something that is too important to be constrained by that kind of rubbish, clearly the ANC doesn't feel that way,

De Ruyter needs to start playing hardball with the ANC. Either he gets his way and can manage the organisation without any political interference, or he walks (jumps ship to another country, then dumps every dirty little secret about Eskom to the media).

What needs to happen is the Hawks needs to be renamed to the Scorpions.

Socialism always fails . Eskom is a trump card in anc ideology . What they could not foresee for numerous reasons and short term thinking is that they following a guaranteed failed ideology that might be catalyst for them to get voted out as people are becoming gatvol. How they don’t have this insight shows what their average Iq probably is .

Play hardball, get instantly fired, labelled an ultra racist.

What a win for De Ruyter that'd be...

Eskom appoints 18 from Solidarity's list of 300 skilled engineers — while being hamstrung by politics

Eskom has so far appointed 18 people from a list of 300 "turnaround agents" submitted to the power utility by Solidarity, according to Rapport.

The relatively small number of appointees is reportedly due to the utility facing an uphill battle against political leaders over the "inclusivity" of its skills procurement plans.
When small minded politicians rather have millions unemployed and hungry, just so that they can get their way.

Sure, and then they have to deal with the fallout of all their corrupt deals in the organisation being exposed.

That's stupidity not hardball. And not to mention unprofessional.

"Hlubi-Majola also hit back at Solidarity’s claims that transformation was partially to blame for Eskom’s predicament, stating that many black engineers were more qualified than their white colleagues."

Eskom's Engineer in Training (EIT) program and level of skill/unskilled ratio currently isn't conducive to shape good power plant engineers or maintainers it hasn't been for a long time now. Skilled labour who come from outside like Sasol enter and exit as they can't adapt to the cowboy style of decision making. Some stay due to the economic climate.

Here's the thing you can't have a team of 10 inexperienced and 3 experienced engineers. The ratio is not conducive for learning and imparting critical skills. The 3 engineers will be overloaded with work and mostly likely seek employment elsewhere. Also power plant knowledge is highly sort after which makes moving abroad a popular choice.

Sourcing skills outside won't resolve this problem. You need a healthy balance of influx of trainees vs the experience and highly experienced engineers. The same applies for operating and maintenance departments. You mess with this ratios you stuffed.

BBBEE has transformed Eskom for the last 20years to a state where engineers with 10 years experience today equates to 3 years experience of an engineer in a highly conducive learning environment. There's no comparison really. The question here is who are they really fooling by creating these source platforms, they not addressing the elephant in the room BBBEE...

The corrupt deals he oversaw and kept quiet about only to spill the beans later when his ultimatum is not met? Have you ever thought that perhaps there is a good reason he is up there and you are here?

What's unprofessional are politicians dictating to a power company what to do.
Sure, but no future company would trust a CEO that took a giant schit over his previous employer, whatever the reasons. He can up and leave without having to be a child about it...
