Is the Levi factory shops still in Cape Town? I can remember two of them. I have a friend that goes shopping in Cape Town at the factory stores whenever she goes down. Apparently she can make up the cost of the flight just with the savings. She does shop a lot though.

Ja, but her family does stay there, so she doesn't go down just for the shopping.

My only Levi that lasted longer than a year was a 501.

My 508's and I think it is a 516/526 just don't cut it in the durabily category, but I don't like the 501 cut, so I don't know what I should do there.

Never been a label whore so always stuck with the "normal" jeans. If what these other guys are saying about durability is true it may be time to take a look at Levi or Guess. Although the jeans I wear have lasted me for ages.

My normal Woolies jeans last longer than my Levi's or Soviets so I don't think that is true. You pay for the label and in my opinion the cut looks much nicer, but that's it.

Also, I much prefer buttons on jeans. Zips make it look like you've got a tiny erection when you go sit down and button jeans usually don't do that.

That is the first semi sensible reason that I have seen for the existence of the button fly. But I will still never buy button fly jeans again.

What I've realized about Levi's jeans (at least it seems to me) is that the quality of the denim used in the lower priced jeans has gone down. The quality of denim that you used to get for R300, you now need to pay R800 to get. Levi's jeans that cost R600 seem to use lower quality denim. Maybe its just me?

You get what you pay for in the end. Some of those more expensive jeans are either just for the label or their quality is superb. Levi's jeans can last me years, so I have no issue paying over R1k for them.

Not necessarily... Half of the clothes are made in the same factories and even top brands are manufactured in the east. You pay for the label in the end.

I get mine from Burtons in UK..... They fit my short, rotund body well. SA jeans assumes that if you have a large waist you must be tall and big

I think there is definitely diminishing returns at play with the price of jeans.

Woolies jeans are better than Mr Price jeans, and Levi's jeans are better than Woolies jeans. The difference will be in the material used and the quality of the fit. And (I believe) R800 Levi's jeans are more comfortable than R600 Levi's jeans.

But beyond that I think it breaks down. I dont think that R7000 jeans are better quality than R800 jeans. Nor do I think R1500 jeans are better quality than R800. Beyond a certain point, I think the only difference is the brand. All made in the same factory and generally using the same materials. All you are paying for is a label.

I prefer Guess. It's not as tight as 501s' and feels a lot more comfortable. Also, Levi's start wearing out at the groin part sooner than any other jeans that I know of.

Who stocks guess jeans other than Guess stores? Edgars?

I don't enjoy shopping. After the first shop trying things on I've had enough already so the idea of going out to do more shopping is daunting :D. Finding a pair that fits nice = win. Price = fail. The 508's fit quite nice, but I can't believe they're worth the R1250 price tag.
