The Proteas - Our Team!

Is it time to hit the panic button on SA cricket? On the surface things are looking very bleak. Our A side is getting pumped by SL at HOME. Got pumped by the WI. I know this isn’t our best team but why are so many guys “resting”? It seems like players are picking and choosing when they are available. Are we only going to be able to pick our best side for World Cups? Should we stop caring about bilateral series? The SA20 is a nice comp but it’s putting lipstick on a pig.

Depth atm is shocking. We are not producing quality cricketers anymore.
I can't disagree with anything you've said.

@stefan9 has a 'glass is half full' type of view on SA cricket. He will add some much needed perspective shortly...

Don't worry lads. Dewald B will be Kallis& Bradman combined and lead us to the promised land.

Not really both white series were extremely disappointed and the a team vs Sri Lanka. Now I know sides don't take those seriously but you expected better from the guys pushing to be in the main team.

Hard talks needed. It wasn't up to standard.

It's quite weird to publicly state that he wants to be remembered as the greatest cricketer of all time? A bit cringe.

if you are getting to that level and your goal is not to be remembered as the best then what is the point?
ever hear a F1 driver say they want to be remembered as the Best number 2 driver in the history of the sport?

if your goal is to make money and not to be remembered as the best how are you going to sell yourself to Franchise teams? how are you going to get sponsorships?

its not cringe, and its not arrogant. its a starting point. now you go out of your way to go and always improve. even when you are sitting at the top of every list, if you are going to keep playing you want to keep improving, that is the second part of the way to get there. if you ever think you are the best you never become the best. that is the key

He has talent and ambition, does he have the required disipline?

He has talent and ambition, does he have the required disipline?
wanting to be the best means he will have to show that over time.
that is part of what is required. and if he really wants to be the best he will need to show that discipline

Nah dude, it's cringe in the extreme! I don't ever recall an F1 driver coming out and publicly stating he want's to be the best racing car driver EVER! In fact that's not an admission any self respecting pro sportsman or sportswoman would make. Most pro's exercise some modesty while at the same time showing their chosen sport, and the legends that have come before them, the necessary respect.

I have no issue with him believing it and aspiring to it... but actually verbalizing it?? Doesn't sit well with me.... cringe!!

In terms of the sport and the greats that came before him, he is an absolute pipsqueak.

Dricus does it as well and often, wants to be remembered as the greatest fighter ever!! 🤮

A certain ABDV said something similar and he didn't turn out too bad
Nope. AB said he wants to be the best test batsman in the world. He made no comments regarding best ever.
Also he made those comments while he was established in the Proteas team. Side note he was never ranked as nr 1 in test cricket.

Its arrogant in the extreme when you aren't even in your national team. Maybe establish yourself as a star for your nation first.

Result... Wow. Proper drubbing. In Harare to boot.

PROTEAS MEN’S SQUAD ANNOUNCED FOR BANGLADESH TEST TOUR

Monday, 30 September 2024

JOHANNESBURG:
Test head coach Shukri Conrad has today announced a strong 15-player squad for the two-match series against Bangladesh in October.

Dafabet Warriors all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy has been recalled for the first time since his last appearance for the Proteas in March 2023. The 30-year-old, who has three Test caps, has taken 247 first-class wickets and amassed nearly 5 000 runs at an average of 30.41.

Muthusamy is one of three frontline spinners in the squad, alongside Keshav Maharaj and the Knights’ Dane Piedt.

Kagiso Rabada will spearhead the pace attack, which also includes Nandre Burger, World Sports Betting Western Province’s Dane Paterson, and DP World Lions all-rounder Wiaan Mulder.

Warriors batter Matthew Breetzke, who was part of the recent Test tour of the West Indies, is the only uncapped player in the side.

Captain Temba Bavuma will lead the side in the two-match series which gets underway from 21 - 25 October in Dhaka, before his side heads to Chattogram for the second Test from 29 October - 02 November.

Commenting on the squad, Conrad said: “I want to firstly thank both boards, Cricket South Africa and the Bangladesh Cricket Board, for ensuring the series goes ahead.

"Bangladesh is always a tough place to tour. They’ve become a formidable side at home and we have to be prepared for the challenge that awaits us. We have therefore chosen a squad for the conditions we are expecting to greet us when we get there.

"We have three frontline spinners and all of them have the ability to step up at any time they are needed. This is a great chance for someone like Senuran, who has potential to make a mark with both bat and ball. We are really looking forward to seeing what he can offer.

"Overall, we trust the depth and versatility in our squad to meet this challenge head-on."
