Maybe Lerato is a valued employee and not an idiot and it has nothing to do with race.

Ok, not related to the quoted post, hypothetical scenarios:

Consider this hypothetical scenario, 10 employees, 5 black, 2 indian, 2 whites, 1 chinese, out of the 10 one white person and black person get called monkeys because of their behavior at a work function. Is it racist because there is one black person involved despite the fact a white person was also labeled a monkey?

Scenario two, I have a bunch of kids climbing and swinging around in my avo tree at a braai, I shout "Hey you monkeys get out of the tree before you hurt yourselves" (genuine concern), one child happens to be black, do we cause a shitstorm?
Maybe another scenario, don't be a dck and call people monkeys in the work place(regardless of their race). It's bloody rude anyway.

DA reports Durban official to rights commission over racist slur

Durban - The DA in eThekwini has reported the municipality’s head of legal services, Gideon Phungula, to the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) over alleged racial slurs about Indians made in telephone conversations.

In one recording, an official said to be Phungula is heard referring to “corrupt c*****s” and “c*****s” five times.

The recordings were not authenticated, but the city confirmed its investigation and suspension of Phungula pending the outcome of the probe.

“In the recording, Phungula is heard on record having called deputy City manager Krish Kumar and other Indian colleagues ‘c*****s’, a highly derogatory and racist term.

What if you're calling together a group of actors that portray monkeys in your stage production?
No "hey monkeys, listen up." ... ?
Interesting you say that as monkey is a general term in the industry for people that do general stuff anybody can do. Only in SA where the word is now "demeaning".

It's stupid, but it has spread wider than just SA. That "coolest monkey in the jungle" H&M thing was international.
