How are they the better evil?

How can you even BEGIN to think that? Surely you have some grasp of basic economics?

You are entitled to your opinion but so is he no need to insult him because of it. It just makes you seem overly aggressive and I dont believe you will be able to have an intelligent conversation or sway anyones opinion if your behaviour continues like that.

Not sure if this is going to come out correctly or if I can even explain it well enough to be understood.

I disagree with this. We live in a world. White 'privilege' is not a reality. This 'privilege' is not a 'over and above' thing that give anyone or anything an advantage over anyone or anything. Just happens due to SA history that black people had a disadvantage. White privilege imo doesn't exist, its a standard of living in the world. There are black and white privileged in our world, but your average joe in the street is not 'privileged', they have the 'standards'. What we have is 'black under-privilege/disadvantage' from the 'standard', not a 'white privilege'.

You're correct in a way, but I disagree with you slightly.

Black people were disadvantaged during apartheid, which I in NO WAY condone, but since 1994 this has progressively changed.

Only 8% of SA's population today comprises of white people. There's no logical argument to say that 4 million white people are more "advantaged" than 51 million black people. I fall into the middle-class category, among millions of other South Africans irrespective of demographic.

So this "privileged/under-privileged" BS needs to stop. The so-called "privileged" people of this country pay taxes to support the so-called "under-privileged" but the ANC pissed more than R700bn away over the years, instead of making the economy thrive. My skin pigmentation doesn't make me better than the next person.

He is entitled to his opinion but that does not in any way protect it from being challenged if it's stupid.

Please list the following:

1) The area where you grew up
2) The schools you went to growing up and how far away they where from your home
3) Your parents jobs and educational levels and how much time they had to help and assist you growing

Once you realise that how much the above 3 things contribute to where you are today and how apartheid would have most likely influenced them all then you might realise that you are in fact privileged (or maybe not). Compare your answers to the average township dweller and then ask the question again. No one grows up in isolation, everyone depends on their parents to some extent, that is where the privilege comes from.

I'm not saying don't challenge it but there is no need to insult him in the process and calling it stupid is most certainly a insult by anyone's standard's. The fact that he has apologised when he felt he was wrong makes me want to hear what he has to say even more yet you continue to be extremely aggressive towards him! I have to wonder what that says about you.

Personally I don't see it as an insult, its a very blunt question though, which some people may see as an insult but that is an issue that they personally have to deal with...

As for calling his opinion stupid, its a perfectly valid statement if he is of the opinion that the EFF is the better evil than some of the other opposition parties out there.

You may call what he did an apology, I don't.. ngwe23 backed down to me specifically because I challenged the claim and wouldn't let it go, the baseless generic claim still stood and was re-inforced in the "apology".

Calling a view or opinion stupid is not the same as calling a person stupid. Intelligent people can have stupid or irrational opinions on certain things, opinions should be challenged. We are all allowed to have them but if engage in a forum that doesn't give you immunity from being called out for having a silly opinion.

The way I perceive it is that you talk about your opinion as if it were fact! Arrogant much?

1) I lived in a ****ty little town called Stilfontein in the North West. It's a one-horse mining town where most people are poor.
2) I used to cycle to school on a ****ty little bicycle that was 10km away from home
3) My mom was unemployed for most of her life and my dad worked in the retail sector

We were not well-off and it was tough growing up, so I know what it's like for a lot of people who are struggling.

Challenge my opinion with valid stuff and it will change, therefore it is not fact...

Challenge my opinion with complete BS and I will call you on it and there won't be very much tact involved.

Thanks for the honest answer, I think you would understand more than most what the average black person went through growing up.

I agree with your distinction here but don't think ToxicBunny has the best intentions and so that is how I formed this opinion. By that I mean he is looking for a fight and instead of engaging the conversation he went in for the kill instead of finding out what they actually do have in common (for example the failing ANC party) he is leveraging the differences. Why? I don't get it.

Have you engaged with ngwe23 on a regular basis recently out of interest? Not just read the threads, but actively engaged?

Did you manage to get out of poverty and make a better life for yourself?
It's not easy growing up under such circumstances

No, and I don't nessasarily agree with his point of view but I do think your approach is questionable and IMO is most certainly not geared for transformation.

Stupid opinions need to be stomped on. This is CA. Mollycoddling and wimpishness can feel at home in the Health, Wealth, Tears & Wailing section.
