No one said it cannot done. There are many black people with similar stories but they are the exceptions and not the norm. Their path is made to be unduly difficult simply because they are of a different race and why should that be acceptable. Why do you keep making excuses for an non level playing field? it makes no sense to me. Is it an absurd notion to ask that a baby that is born black have the same opportunities in life as a baby born white? What is unreasonable about that?
My point is there are other races in SA as well. Indians got screwed over by the apartheid government as well, but now Indian males are the second worst category in BEE.

My goodness, what absolute nonsense. And what a hypocrite you are. A well off and well educated black man telling us how white people have resources but blacks don't.
But it is the truth. are you disputing it. You may not like it but it is the truth.

I was referring to further education. That was down to me and wife, who both worked also. My parents didn't have money.
That is because you were is a position to further your education to start with. not everyone has that luxury

Clearly not. I left school at 15 and only returned to study in my mid 20s when I could afford to after working and saving. You sound like your mummy and daddy paid for yours.
Perharps you should start by understanding "correlation" before answering.

Ngwe. Stop living in the past. 20+ years is a long time. Sure it's difficult for the struggling people but just remember that if the ANC as a whole stops their fraud and corruption for self gain then there are a huge amount of funds available for improving the situation drastically, but they prefer not to do it. Just look at the difference between the DA areas and the ANC run areas and remember the DA are not even in control of the national budget.

What does this mean? Can you explain please? Because I thought it was white people who were asked if they were previously disadvantaged on job applications.

I certainly was, and now sit in a sand pit in the Middle East so my disadvantaged kids can benefit and have a future.

that is why "black" in the SA context includes Indians, Coloureds and Africans.

I think I'll rather just disengage and leave you to enjoy being a victim.

The fact that they are asked is a attempt to address the unevenness of the playing field. If the playing field was fair there would be no need for BEE. Get it? BEE is the medicine to a problem not the problem.

lol. Are you aware that you just reiterated my point for me?

I am fully aware but the point is I wanted to ease you one track mind!

Why must one suffer on behalf of the other? Why impoverish one group out of spite? Why not give all born after 1995 the same opportunity?

My family is Indian. My grandparents arrived from India with nothing but the clothes on their back. They were treated like dirt by the government.

I think not only the government of the time, in SA would have done that, any government when you pitch up in their country would do the same. Why should they care about foreigners. Thinking I should now go to India and be given homes, and everything easy. I never understand this way of thinking. What comes to mind for me is, like the Australian PM said "You do't like me or my rules or my style, then go back to where you came from" As they say, charity starts at home. Birds of a feather flock together.

Why not give all born after 1995 the same opportunity?

The crude answer to that is that you can't simply say everyone born after 95 be excluded from equity requirements. The reason for that being that the legacy of our past doesn't care if you were born after 95 in its enduring effects.

The flip side of course is that there are those who benefitted from equity and have amassed wealth and influence and their offspring the same and should be excluded from equity. So what is needed is a system that distinguishes on need among the previously disadvantaged not simply check designation and reward.

That's not the point of my post. I was Pointing out that even if you came with nothing and got treated like dirt you can still make a success out of yourself.

OT but I suspect indentured labour came from the lower castes? Had they stayed in india would they have had lesser opportunities as i don't think you can escape your caste?

Honestly I'm not sure what caste they were. They were Muslim Indians so I'm not even sure if caste applies

Not the greatest example. Australia really does go the extra mile to help immigrants even if they don't get paid directly (Although we are eligable for the government healthcare and a small family care allowance until we earn over a certain threshold.)

You get assigned a case officer who helps you as a reference for apartment rentals and walks you through a bunch of stuff you need to know.

I do agree that it is up to us to integrate or sod off though.
