The real reason for load-shedding - And it's not what Eskom is telling you

Contrary to what Eskom is telling South Africans, the real reason for the current load-shedding is its poorly-skilled staff and a subsequent decline in the adherence to standards of operating practices.

This is the view of equity research firm Primaresearch, which released a report titled “Eskom: Winter is Coming”.

Not sure what they're trying to tell us. We already knew that there isn't a shortage of maintenance but that plants have been kept in such poor condition by substandard work and a general lack of maintenance that they now require the current levels of maintenance to just work normally. It's like not attending to your car for 10 years and then suddenly you have to fix everything that breaks down so you claim you are maintaining it but in reality you haven't done so for a decade.

The figures may be an indication of what is wrong but they will not tell you every thing .
Professional managers and competent engineers are what it takes to run a power station .
To late to blame who ever, time to fix the problem , what ever it takes .

Does the reason matter? It's quite binary, either 1 or 0. When the power is off I don't really care what reason Eskom comes up with, it's still off.

It’s a fact that there are plants that have not been maintained for far too long... Our friends who are engineers for the Eskom are telling us that... The previous regime apparently refused when engineers wanted to shut down some of the machines to fix them... This whole Eskom issue is just a fcuked up and whatever reason people come up with would not make the situation better. Some of the machines are on the verge of breaking down to a point that they cannot be fixed as we have heard from friends working for the utility.

Conclusion: Eskom don't have the skills
Reasson: After spending more, using more staff, doing more maintenance still has more load shedding.
