The solar geyser made a massive difference. It was an immediate saving of about 700kwh per month.
The PV averaged about 450kwh/month

This is December so far

Interestingly, water is pretty cheap - 74p/kl - we use about 8kl per month for a total of about £6. Sewerage is another story. They assume 90% of the water you use goes down the sewer, and then klap you £2/kl for that.

Isn't your water included in your Council Tax? It is in Scotland at least not sure what they do down south

I think it depends on the region, my brother came down on me like a ton of bricks once when my shower was a little too long, he is near London. But my cousin in Scotland was like it's fine go for it.

Nope. Separate, private companies here.

Ahh I see. Another useless company to deal with I presume?

Also wanted to point out in this thread that energy companies seem to have some of the worst customer service I have ever seen. Earlier this year when I moved into my new place, SSE screwed up a digit in my address and I ended up being billed for my neighbours usage. Then when this was "corrected" they swapped our addresses around..just a total nightmare. Its not only energy, had problems with Virgin, DHL and govt services. Just anything with a service here, I dread dealing with them. Maybe I just have bad luck :D

Lol. I would come down on you like a ton of bricks for the electricity, not the water. I have an electric shower and those things chow elec.

think it was both reasons :). Cause he had a silly little geyser in his flat, like a little thing. Probably just a water heater.

I was specifically interested in the electricity bill but thanks anyway. I wouldn't live there anyway...
Wages suck in that part of the world so I can imagine its hard to get by
Saying that wages here suck is a bit of a strong word. I'm up around 25% in gross salary versus SA for exactly the same job and I would be paying less tax if it wasn't for the whole still have to pay taxes in SA thing. I'm apparently under qualified or perhaps my CV just sucks, but I've seen offers of another 50% more for this same job description, at the likes of Monzo and co.
It's definitely not on par with US salaries but you can do pretty well here.
