"The bill is intended to, among other things, ensure that benefits are more skewed towards the victim than sharing them with legal representatives that help with claims applications. "

This is a good thing, Lawyers are milking this system, corrupt as they are. I had a claim against RAF, got R18K, lawyer pocketed in excess of R100K.

Did you see the limits? and how they want to pay it?

Would be great if they also amended the definition of a Road Accident vs Road Incident. That would greatly alleviate claims for accidents only! Make it illegal to drive any vehicle without at least 3rd party insurance. Public transporters have to take legal/liability cover. Taxis that skip a red light and causes a traffic incident = attempted murder/murder charges. Real accidents can claim from new system.

Sure, force 3rd party insurance..

It will not be enforced... It's not possible..

WHAT A CROCK OF SHYTE!!!

Remove it completely and force 3rd party liability insurance... How farking hard can it be?
It'll some doing to get most cars on SA's road paying 3rd party cover. Never mind the ones who just drive around with just enough for fuel from point A to point B, there are people in fancy cars without any insurance at all. Enforcement would have to improve more than 100% to get to an acceptable level of compliance. Suppose you could start by making it a registration requirement, and then trying to mop up the unregistered ones trying to escape paying but I doubt it'd work. The idea is good as if 80% of vehicles paid, the cost would be so low that it would be affordable.

The committee legislates in order to benefit poor South Africans, and the quality of input that the committee received from South Africans will ensure that this law achieves that.”

Does this mean white South Africans will be excluded from the scheme?

Legal experts have also warned that the RABS’ implementation will see fuel levies rising by an estimated 75% and reduced compensation being provided to road accident victims and their dependents.
