The Rugby thread

Tough weekend for Stormers, Lions and Cheetahs as they are now out of their respective competitions. Well done to the Bulls and Sharks heading to the Q.F.'s. Good luck.
The wind was bad though.
Agree the wind was bad and in this instance he can't be blamed. The whole 2nd half was a disaster from the team.
Libbok is a great flyhalf but his kicking is not good enough in general though and with the close games we are getting these days he will need to sort it out asap or we need another full time kicker when Polly retires.

'Landmark' prosecution for online abuse of Rugby World Cup official

World Rugby hailed "a landmark" after a man in Australia was prosecuted for targeting a match official and his family online during last year's World Cup in France.

The rugby body said that it was the first prosecution for online hate at the 2023 World Cup and "further cases are pending across five jurisdictions".

The man, identified by Australian media as Aaron Isaia, a youth worker from Brisbane, pleaded guilty an online harassment charge on Monday and was handed an AUS$1 000 ($650) good behaviour bond.

He will also be banned from all World Rugby events.

"World Rugby welcomes this landmark outcome," chief executive Alan Gilpin said in a statement.

"The vile and toxic abuse is an all-too-common occurrence for many sports men and women and public figures.

"We hope that this sends a very strong message to online trolls that such behaviour is totally unacceptable and that the sport and the authorities are prepared to take action."

The New Zealand-born Isaia, 22, sent a television match official (TMO) and his wife threatening and abusive messages via Facebook during the World Cup.

He was tracked down by a World Rugby online abuse programme supporting match officials and their families.

Separately, Wayne Barnes, who refereed the World Cup final between South Africa and New Zealand in Paris, reportedly received death threats afterwards, as did TMO Tom Foley.

Oke got off lightly if you ask me...
Came here to say this. They're getting hammered.

But why so many players not there? Did Jake surrender before kick off?

It sures feel like that. Imagine spending 175k pounds to fly players there and not field your best team.
Seems that Jake rather wants to go all in with the URC. was a terrible game, especially the 2nd half.
Hope the Sharks can do the business against Glasgow but it is an away game.
Lions have got Leinster - Eina!!!!
Bulls have Munster.
Stormers have Ospreys.

I must say, I'm loving Schalla getting behind the Bulls. I've never been one for this stupid hatred of other local teams. Great example being set to the fans by one of the WP legends.
So Jake White sinks Champions cup chances and then plays like this against Munster...

All the Irish teams can come to SA and win here but SA teams can't win in Ireland.
Not looking good for play-off spots in the URC if we carry on with this poor standard of rugby. Stormers were bad, Bulls had a chance but the red card cost them. Lions were good but you can't rate their performance against a team that made 13 changes and lacked game time and cohesion.
