The SA power grid is in trouble

Okay the EAF has been low because there has been an increase in planned maintenance as well. This has gone from the 2 to 4GW planned maintenance to 5 to 7GW last year and this.
That is why the EAF is low, the actual unplanned outages have sadly remained high as well though :(. But years and years of pushing things to the limit and unmothballing decommissioned stations will do that.

Can't Eskom give an executive summary with graphs for reliability maintenance outages vs unplanned outages vs normal maintenance to see if the words match the reality. Reading the same excuses all the time does not help.

Their Unplanned Maintenance Outages "category" is actually misleading:

apparently if a maintenance project or event's budget is less than a certain amount, it is categorized as Unplanned...

'SA is in trouble'. Or more accurately 'deep trouble' since the article neglects to mention that SA generation shortages will significantly increase in severity as older units reach end of life in 48 months.

Nonesense. Eskom is too big to fail.

That's why clearer numbers are needed rather than the verbiage given. How do the top guys in Eskom view this? Surely there are more meaningful snapshots of the grid that Eskom could give us.

“It is correct that as EAF drops, all other factors remaining the same, the risk of load shedding would increase,” Eskom told MyBroadband.

But all else didn't remain the same, did it?

Prices increased, or were those in typical South African fashion applied for executive bonuses again, instead of increase maintenance or whatever the **** these morons were supposed to do to improve Eskom's generating efficiency?
