Goodbye TV licence — South Africans ditching SABC

The South African Broadcasting Corporation's (SABC) forecast for the remainder of the 2022/23 financial year paints a bleak picture for the broadcaster, with overall revenue coming in at R1 billion below budget.

SABC chief financial officer Yolande van Biljon said the grim forecast is primarily due to underperformance in advertising revenue and TV licence fee collection.

The broadcaster believes the programme could help lower TV licence fee evasion rates to ensure its financial sustainability.

Really? You think so?
 Its like they don't fully understand the South African population

“The main reason is the consistent underperformance in our advertising revenue as well as TV licence revenue which has consistently also not lived up to expectations.”
So they hell are they budgeting so high when they clearly know that the no one is paying.

The sooner SABC realises that it needs to change strategy and aknowledge competition from social media the better it will be positioned. They also need to check the number of the employees they have versus what they want to achieve. Nothing will change itself as they are hoping.

I cannot be bothered with South African television - when I watch at family member's homes it is only crappy shows and content, too many adverts aimed at a target market that excludes me, depressing news: strikes, protests, riots, corruption, murders - just another day in gangster's paradise. I'll stick to gardening and reading thank you very much.
