The SARB load-shedding chart that shows just how bad 2020 has been

The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) recently published a chart which illustrates just how bad load-shedding has been this year.

According to the SARB, South Africa experienced the worst ever load shedding in 2020, with the total gigawatt-hours shed surpassing the 2019 record in August.

Cumulative shedding for 2020 is already 23% worse than in 2019 – even though real GDP is currently about 9% lower than it was this time in 2019.

Now that is quite an achievement.

Ok wait so if the ANC continues to destroy the entire economy except for one Spar then could Eskom keep the lights on? Or would that be setting ourselves up for disappointment?

Not to mention they just, just kept the lights on during the first 4 months of lockdown.
Had opportunities to refuel Koeberg unit 2 waited till 2 months ago. Took Camden offline and still might be

In ESKOM's defense, electricity apparently not being an essential service I believe they were not allowed to do preventative maintenance during lockdown level 5, and possibly 4 as well.

Yup apparently they only did minor maintenance, didn't bother refueling koeberg unit 2 while it was off for the amount of time it would need to be off for refueling. No lets wait till August after we've just had load shedding.
To be fair they did bring down Camden to sort out the ash dam, but that of course was a fiasco as well.
