It doesn't help that every manufacturer tries to punt SUVs as their cash cow, and don't put nearly as much R&D into their sedans.

They even discontinued the Jetta which was a Safrican staple in the 80's through to the mid 00's.

The sedan is dead everywhere, the SUV was punted as the perfect mommy's car, now every car manufacturer has SUVs, Mini SUVs, cross overs and such. No longer making sedans.
My last sedan was a Cruze I got rid of 2 years ago, mainly as parts were going to start being an issue, they'd barely been out the country and I struggled to find a coil pack.
But to drive her was great, comfortable, big enough for a family, quiet and stable, also cheap on insurance. But hey the SUV won

Example2505 doesn’t approve. He wants his sedans back.

I like sedans, but I also don’t want meter-taxi drivers to mistake me for an Uber when I’m driving through Braamfontein.

Why are you in braamfontein? Picking up a weekend meisie?

dont understand this suv craze.I get tied of people saying "i have a family now , now i need an suv".Back in the old days people with families used sedans and travelled the entire country without any problems.

SUV have perceived safety. Although studies show otherwise.
SUV is now the in thing especially with the entry level option being easily affordable.
Arguably it’s Hyundai that changed the market.

There is the thought that they are bigger as well, but most of the times the boot isn't much bigger, but the hatch style door does help.

There are practical SUVs for that, even back in the good old days a station wagon was far more suited as a family car than a sedan.
