joomla may be overkill :)

It depends on your host - but wordpress may be the easiest way to start.

PM me if you need a hand setting it up.

From the website it seems like you have to load that software on your web host. I'm more interested in a program that will run/work straight of my pc so that I can create pages which will later be uploaded to my web host.

I'm not one to care for code validation, where does it make a difference at the end of the day?

Rendered perfectly fine and fast in Opera for me. Was partially rendered while loading and was completely rendered the instant it was done loading. The loading was however a bit slow but it seems everything is slow on adsl lately :/

Yep, everything is slow lately.
Poor code/invalid code causes the clients browser to to "work through" poor code resulting in longer rendering times. On small websites it is not noticable. On larger websites takes a couple seconds longer as well as increasing cpu/ram usage.
It also causes the webpage to not display correctly sometimes depending on how poor the code is.

For eg: Browse fanfiction.net, open up a couple pages and watch your ram/cpu usage shoot up.

Everything is measured by a standard, to work at a suitable level of quality.

Hey you also need to save that cash for Jeep repairs! :D

PM me on the other side, will see maybe we can sort you out chop chop!

amaD....

So what would you oke sugest one does....?

I am a small bussiness owner who would like to have a website with photos of jobs I have done before. I have had quotes for R1800 - R3500 for just a very simple front page and a couple of thumbnails of photos.

I cant justify that kind of $$ just to have a couple of photos and a overview of what service I can provide.....

So the next best thing for me is to attempt it myself. It might look bad, but hey, its just a website. Maby if I was a web designer by trade, then yes, by all means please have a very shiny, good looking and easy to use website. But for me, a website is just a interactive advert....

I agree with djjoubert. I also design my own websites and do not know coding. Everything i know about web design and FTP, etc is what i learnt from playing around. Must say i'm not doing bad with 3 job offers. I'd rather start my own business....

Left the company instead, to work for a company that actually has a clue :)
