The year that Northern Transvaal beat WP with 1 point in the curry cup, Clive Rice was asked by an interviewer what the difference between a good and a bad team is. He said 1 point :D

R.I.P.

It's a pity that our first-class cricket is so bad that it doesn't even get televised anymore.

MOD note: This thread was created by me and not rza. This post and the next one was moved from the CEB Rice thread.

With the intro of post isolation Tests, ODi's and especially Pro20 who needs to see local teams slogging it out for 4 days?

Then there's the quota system which removes pure talent in favour of transformation.

I've seen quite a few comments about this in other threads and will also be moving one or two posts here.

Many folks, me included, bemoan the standard of local cricket.

Why? Is there a problem? What can be done?

Discuss...

I think the quality of the First Class circuit is good. Otherwise top performing players locally would be found out in other leagues, not talking just T20, the County circuit as well. Add to that the players making their way to the Proteas, they have held their own IMO. As for being televised, all formats are gonna struggle for attention, the four day game more so.

Those that love throwing transformation around saying its destroying the teams, how do they explain the success of the Highveld Lions?
