I think that this thread is in order since every thread that car is mentioned in gets hijacked. Perhaps even a poll is in order?

what is the reason for your statement?
If you read up on the reasons for the development of the Nano - it is an attempt by Tata to replace the scooters and other privative forms of transport used by people in India.

Now, bring that to South Africa. The car does 0-70km/h in 14 seconds. It can do MAX 110km/h. Some 125cc scooters and quarry trucks are faster and neither are permitted on highways.

What are you going to do when you need to pull away against a hill during peak hours traffic with 4 people in that car (which is WILL carry when driven here)? Pray? Put out a leg an shove it off?

It will not cost R17,000 when sold to the public. Whoever claims that figure needs to catch a wake-up. With all the taxes Government charge, it will cost at least R28,700.

Problem is, someone with a car that has decent suspension will nail that honda through the corners..

Actually someone in the older Civic Type R will nail that car pretty much everywhere.

Whats the NCAP rating... buying a cheap car is one thing, but buying a car with ZERO safety features is another story.

NCAP tests
I don't think most people realise how much safer cars have become since the 80's. To give you an idea, most new cars get a 4 or 5 star rating. The BMW E36 (Dolphin shape) has a 1 Star rating! That's with airbag and ABS. And I would much rather have an accident in a 3-Series than a Citi. Even with extra safety features the Citi wouldn't come close to getting 1 star.

Thats the Citi-Golf rating... 0 Star Euro NCAP.

Whats the Tata's rating? Have they ever been NCAP tested it? (Tata is not even listed on the NCAP site as a car thats been tested that I can see.)

you won't find Tata on any of the lists and if you do they are usually at the bottom.

but right now, any damn car would do better that my moms 1983/4 daihatsu charade...in one year we put in enough money into that piece of junk to buy a brand new golf

On the upside... the insurance for this car should be real low.

LOL, if the Nano comes here (and there is no word that it will yet), there will be a lot of new complaints about "these damn slow Nano things clogging the roads".

My guess is the will, regrettably, be sold here eventually, regardless of what NCAP rating they get since VW still sells the MK1 shape Golf.

If it gets 4-Star NCAP it's going to be even slower since it needs to carry at least 4 airbags and be strong enough to allow survival of impacts on the side as well. If you look at its bubbly shape...I don't think so since the similarly shaped Smart ForTwo can only manage 3* NCAP...
