At least they see the need for "regular" engineers to keep everything running. Not everything can be programmed. Sometimes you need someone to swing a spanner

Hmmm I did telecommunications back in the early 2000s, wonder how much it's changed :)

Most of it is going towards IP, except the radio part.
Lot's of virtualization is happening as well, everything from the core to the RAN.

It was going IP in 2003 already, one of the things that helped me move over to IS was the company I worked at, contracted me out to install and maintain 3Com NBX system.

Quite the jump in partner visas there. Wonder if it’s the Hemsworth effect.

Question is.. would you really want to go there.. to Australia.. with the Australians

As much as I playfully dislike Bruces, Shielas and their super politically correct approach, I would go because their economy is working and there isn't this fear hanging over your head everyday like we have here.

Then again, Africa isn't for p*ssies, but neither is the Australian outback. Crikey!

Quite a bit. The mediums have changed, modulation techiques too, but the basics of signalling theory are still the same though.

Aussies are the least of you problems, pretty cool folk. The real problems are the expenses, a cheap bottle of Shiraz is over R800.

Definitely, much better than people singing for your death.
Sure, but you are gonna die anyway. Leftist government, so it's not like they will treat you as a first-class citizen there, they have their own forms of AA and BBBEE.

Honestly Singapore is way more attractive now. PR in 12 months, Citizenship in 2 years. And loan to buy apt only have to pay back if sold one day and schooling at their top public schools for like $5Sgd a month. Yip 5. Then lower tax rates and the No.1 passport in the world. And then very expat friendly, safe etc. Australia's high application fees has me eyeing Singapore instead.

Yeah, that has been the direction for a long time, but networks still have a lot of "legacy" systems. Most operators don't even have a complete IMS implementation yet.

**** that. Those politically correct criminal cunts can piss off. I'd rather get stabbed by a bruinou here in South Africa than go live in that shytehole, even if it has a lot of money.

Through the pandemic and everyone losing their jobs in Aus the unemployment rate is up to 6.9%. Compare that with South Africa where before I left 4.5 years ago, people doing realistic figures including tje number of people who have given up looking was closer to 50%, and now through the pandemic I would estimate that to be at least 60% if not higher.

Dan Murphy's has a special on, case of 6 Shiraz for $75 - that's about R150 a bottle.

That's a good price for Aus, must be South African Shiraz, and it's double the usual South African price.
