What about drinking for enjoyment?

I believe people that drink alcohol a lot, without going out or anything, finding it enjoyable to drink the stuff without getting drunk, are worse than me binge drinking every now and again.

I don't understand drinking at home / by yourself / infront of the TV / whenever when there is no intent on going out or something with friends. I only drink when an opportunity presents itself the odd weekend, when friends wanna go out, not whenever, not during the day, and not alone.

but, maybe thats just me - i'm not really a fan of the tastes of tequila/sambucca/beer/etc.

oh yes, those people usually drive beater POS cars at Boston Tea Party....

really now blu - you mean to tell me you have never enjoyed going out with your friends, drinking and having fun???

c'mon...seriously.

But of course I drank and partied.

It is crap advice to tell someone else to do the same :)

Lol
Go to Newscafe in Sandton, Rivonia or Eastgate on a Friday night then find out what those patrons rank in their organisations!!
If it wasnt for corporates most of these drinking holes wont be open today.

Poor JK8, what is your background that you so glibly assume that a nice job and lots of money equals success? Success is measured in far wider terms than that.

Agree completely! I don't like the fact that people get home from work and have a couple of beers in front of the tv ... personally think that turns into a problem over the years.

Also went to UCT and I have only had two accidental alcoholic sips in my life. It was during freshman(yr 2000) o-week and was handed two cans of Monis A-spirit or something along those lines.

Took a sip and felt and was surprised by the bitter-ish taste, took another one and then read the can..4.5% Alcohol it said :D

There are lots of opportunities to get drunk. O-week, the float party, RAG, Maties vs Ikeys games. But if you not into it, then its still cool.

By the way, the UCT party scene, is pretty tame when compared to Wits. As for Res, ask for Kopano..it rocks :)

Bro, congrats on atleast asking questions regarding these things instead of "assuming" the crowd is right. Secondly, here is my opinion on it all... Varsity was awesome, mainly due to the people I met, not because of the societies I joined or the subjects I took..no to me it was about meeting new people...and even though we where all animals at varsity we eventually graduated and those people I met turned into valuable friends and bussiness contacts...and we didnt get hammered all the time or go binging, no we drank mostly in moderation (with exeptions, but always with our wits about us. ). Let me be the first to dare you, to climb out of your shell, go for a couple of beers with okes, you dont need to get sloshed...but on the other hand my one friend in varsity currently has a semi okay social life and she doesnt drink at all, but neither does the church people she hang out with..so like I said it depends.......but nobody wants to be an introvert

Agreed, with the exception of the beer (1664 is sooo good)

Off the top of my head I measure it with happiness, love , quality of life and friends. Frequenting a pub/club detracts from none of that.

Listen, it is all very simple. If you don't drink, then only 30% of the girls are hot.
If you drink to 50% of passing out, 45% of girls are hot.
After that the percentage ratios have not been defined by any science, still one of those unknowns.

Chris, everybody is just confusing you.

go out, get schlosshed, and decide for yourself - that is the only way. (please go out with your club friends, though - not the non-clubbers)

also try "almost schlosshed", "medium schlosshed" and "semi-schlosshed" aka "Tipsy" and see what works for you.

just don't drink for the hell of it - even us clubbers are against that, mostly.

Of course!!!!!!!!!!

JK8 said the dudes hanging out at the Newscafe has top jobs. He made MONEY the yardstick for success. He did not mention anything else. His choice, not mine.

An 18 year old does not have the life experience to judge something like that.

If someone does not want to do it, it's their choice.

Erk I took the post differently ... I thought jk8 meant that if it were not for people going to newscafe straight from work, they would have no customers? As if those of us leaving from home to go out wouldn't choose news.

he only said "money" because you said "they usually never amount to anything" which usually means career ie: "money"

An 18 year old needs these life experiences so they too can grow and judge...

I only go to clubs (when I can) because I like the music, and only with friends. I listen to electronic music all the time and it's nice sometimes to listen to it really loud and dance.

I also get drunk purely cause it's fun, although I ALWAYS regret stuff I've said or done the next day. Even if I didn't do or say anything stupid, I just have a feeling of "crapness" the nest day (no, not a hangover). There's just something about getting drunk that makes me want to.

The only fiends I have are in my class at school, so it's about 10 all in all. I'm just not the type of person who socialises with everyone and can do that. I wish I could talk easily to people. (it's not that I'm shy, by no means.)

Something like that, these drinking holes like News, Cofi, Frankies etc get their money from corporate customers that are not useless "unsuccessful" losers.

And for Chris, its something you going to have to get used to im afraid, the "partying" socialising scene might stay with you right through your working career.

All I can say is at least you meet a lot of women, and a lot of them are single too.

wouldn't wanna sit and watch dvd's till ur 35, and then start looking for a GF/wife..

and before anyone asks, I know you don't ONLY meet women there, but hey - a lot of my friends met their wives this way.
