107 (Part 1 of the Namibia Special) was just lovely.

It like the golden age of TG specials.

To the point; nothing unnecessary & just an all-round great adventure with 3 friends

Those Namib dunes are epic!

Really looking forward to 108 (Part 2) tomorrow

Sounds promising; hope I enjoy it. I've skipped through most of the episodes thus far. The silly crap isn't my cup of tea most of the time, and the choices of cars to review have been hugely disappointing. And the dying celebrities stopped being funny from episode 2.

Thoroughly enjoyed that. Much better and agree with the earlier comment it didn't seem so scripted.

Wow, that was very different. No crowds in the tent. No Conversation Street. No Celebrity Brain Crash. No American. No whip around the track. Just three men in beach buggies in the desert. (OK, a few seconds of a truck driver, a bakkie driver, and a barman.)

Interesting turn.

Will be watching next week to see how they get to the Kunene.

Ah, thanks for that. I thought we had to wait a week for Part 2. Now I see it's available from tomorrow.

I did mention early in the week that Part 1 on Fri & Part 2 on Sat

No gimmicks and it was pretty good...quite enjoyed that though very little happened. Must have been very cheap to film :)...run out of budget there, guys?

Meh, needs more crowd, more conversation street and celebrity brain crash. These "special episodes" brings too much joy to those who normally complain.

But they are consistent with what they normally did, on TG
So makes sense I suppose.

I enjoyed the latest episode. As mentioned, a lot of shenanigans concerning fuel, geography, desert camping etc. were going on, but unlike the new Top Gear, they didn't bother me.

I hope they review more supercars and do more comparisons next season, and drop the stupid celebrity segment for something that doesn't stuck. Fewer forced jokes in the studio might be good too - feels less funny than old Top Gear.

I thought several times throughout the latest episode how bad it would be with Matt LeBlanc. He has no clue how to pull this stuff off. Can't believe Evans left the show and not him. Neither are good, but LeBlanc is so much worse.

is it worth the bandwidth at least?

Conclusion: depends how much bandwidth you have.

Just done with it, and I actually realise that the Grand Tour is more like a Top Gear for people who'd never seen the show before (Amazon's American audience) rather than a fresh continuation of the Top Gear experience.

This episode specifically matched the old TG formula 100%:
- Waste more time on poor navigation
- Make a presenter angry with funny modifications to his car
- Make some overly-elaborate contraption to cross a river
- Make that contraption very scary (supposedly).

The big difference now is that there is more references to anuses, and more focus on drinking beer. Maybe the BBC didn't allow that?

Still, it was a fun blast from the past anyway, so good on them :)
