So, received my Jet mitre saw today and played around with it a bit..
Out of the box, it's almost dead nuts accurate.. the blade in relation to fence and surface of the saw was within 0.5 degrees or less of square with each other, which is plenty accurate.. the Lazer line was also dead nuts accurate, although be it on the wrong side of the blade.. was off exactly the same distance as the kerf of the blade.. this can be adjusted though..
I did have to adjust the marker for the mitre adjustment, was just a smidge off.. only really an issue when you are cutting at non-common angles, as 0,22.5,45 angles etc are all click in place..
As for the finishing work and overall craftsmanship, this is where they cheap out.. it's not terrible but, it is very noticeable that they are cutting costs in this regard.. the support slide for the body is plastic, where on most other mitre saws it's cast as part of the main body.. doesn't detract from functionality or longevity at all, just a cost saving measure on the casting.. a few places where there is slight paint overspray and the casting is a little rough..
Considering the lack of craftsmanship and plastic bits, I imagine these have a lower normal price point in the US, verus it's normal price point here, which runs around the R5.5k mark..
I would be a little depressed spending that much to find the craftsmanship lacking as it does, but I am very happy with the machine considering what I paid for it..
As a side note, I might have to upgrade the breaker feeding my garage.. the start draw on this thing is insane, making my garage lights flash..
