The top-selling TV brand in South Africa

"Another factor was Hisense’s decision to open a factory in the Western Cape."....the former Telefunken factory in Atlantis iirc....

I'm in the market for a new tv. From the comments so far it would seem that Hisense is not a good idea. What make would you guys recommend?

4K UHD with a good refresh rate. 50" or around there.

Depends on what you buy.

Don't expect miracles at R4000.

I bought a 50" K680 a year ago at R10k and it's still better than any Samsung or LG at that price point.

Normal "You get what you pay for" rules apply. Just know when you pay for Samsung or LG, you get a lot more marketing for your money.

My 2014 sony 40 inch FHD,still looks better than most LG's under 10k. That is from seeing friends and family's new lg's and clearly seeing a better picture quality on mine.

Hisense was not allowed to provide a full list of TV brands by unit sales, but did say it achieved dominance in unit share between March and July 2016.

:wtf: That sounds a lot like Hisense SA saying "We here at Hisense is the bestest in SA, you believe everything we tell you, no need for independent verification".

Why would MyBB be getting competitor TV sales stats from Hisense and not from retailers or some other independently audited source?

I have had three Hisense TVs' ranging from 3 to 5 years old. All trouble free and working perfectly.

I switched from Sony to Samsung, huge difference. For now I will stick with Sammie :)

So most people buy k@k....................

Careful now, I could say the same thing about Samsung and LG. The Japanese were excellent at making the best tvs available until the Koreans undercut them and destroyed the best tvs ever produced. My favourite brand being Pioneer Kuro, Panasonic following with Sony also in the mix.

Interestingly, history is about to repeat itself. What the Koreans did to the Japanese the Chinese are doing it to them. Soon we will hear Samsung and LG complaining they they can't compete on price with the Chinese and are closing shop.

I'm on my 3rd Sammy, a 2013 55" Series 7.

Good, but I think Samsung are overrated for the price.

Having said that, the new Hisense seem to offer great value, but many forums in UK and Oz complain about firmware issues and bugs with the latest features.

Guess you can't have it all.
