The most popular video games in South Africa

Grand Theft Auto V remains one of the most popular games in South Africa despite the fact that it was launched in 2013.

This is according to statistics from South African online retailer Raru, who said that both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game comfortably outsold any other title.
 
Very misleading article...Where is the SA steam store stats ,ect Basing the most popular games on only stores when including the biggest platforms for games...

Game stats are based on retail sales. Virtual sale stats don't get released.

Always ways to get proper stats. If you don't have them need to make it clear you are only talking about physical sales...

Well the industry always use physical sales numbers and nobody ever mentions that. So if you have a bone to pick it should be with the media in general and not mybb specifically in this case.
 
Well Sony dominates market share in SA by the looks of game sales...

Just because one publication is lazy doesn't excuse another for doing the same...

If I was commenting on another media piece which exclude the digital sales it would be the same argument.

Not surprising given what stats are based on. Most pc gamers have moved away from physical stores long ago.

I haven't bought a physical game in years, yet I have bought hundreds of games across various digital platforms (XBOX, Steam, Epic, etc) over the last 5+ years.

Understandably, they might not have access to these stats, but calling this article "The most popular video games in South Africa" is inaccurate. How about a poll/survey rather, that should more accurately reflect the popular games and platforms (even if it's just among the myBB readers).

I'm also a xbox player. My ps4 has mostly gathered dust.

I share xbox game pass and digital games with a friend. Very nice we play online together so works out pretty decent. Ps4 you can also game share digital games I believe but yeah never really got into ps4.

I'm between my PC and my Xbox, the game pass covers both which is cool. I never got into PS4 as at the time it was basically just remasters and yes there were some great exclusives on the PS3, the Unchartered series, God of War and that's pretty much it. Even in the top 10s of PS4 exclusives it's remasters, I mean Shadow of the Colossus has been remastered twice?

Yes xbox game pass that carries to windows 10 is also very nice. Play forza horizon 4 on pc and xbox one very decent.

No way that can every happen. PC gaming might out rank like nintendo or maybe xbox but will never outrank ps4. There is just too many ps4 players in SA. The point I was trying to make is that people mention digital releases of pc games so it's not accurate to say SA top games when you don't include PC digital sales. The figures will be neglectable. If MW 2019 did not make the list or so low in the rankings on console I doubt any pc game would have had a noticeable influence on the rankings.

*PS this is purely my opinion because well we don't have pc gaming figures in SA. Also this is not a Console vs pc which is better argument basically just player numbers and sale figures.

Then some smartass will get a bee in his bonnet about how it is not representative of all the sales across SA.

Some fights just aren't worth it.
 
Lol @ FIFA 19 being a top seller.

Some well meaning but ignorant parents probably buy it because it's well-priced and their kids like football. Only for the poor kid to excitedly receive the gift then realise that it's last year's version. :ROFL:

The same old song been sung since 1994..PC gaming still going strong.

MS would not have opened up Microsoft game pass to both pc & console gamers if the pc market wasn't worth it.

Revenue wise pc gaming will be more then competitive in the rankings. WOW on its own still has 5 million subs.

Very likely ps4 will be one but pretty confident pc gaming will be above xbox.
