The true price of data, as told by Vodacom

Someone please help me; I'm on a Vodacom Top Up package, when I dial *111# to buy a data bundle I have the following options:

R9 for 10mb
R25 for 30mb
R49 for 100mb
R99 for 250mb
R159 for 500mb

Is there a cheaper option to buy data on Vodacom Top Up? R159 for 500mb seems like the only reasonable offer, but then again compared to the Cell C deal I saw (I think its called Supercharge) its still VERY expensive!

Let me understand this - how can the true price of mobile data be "between 30c and 40c per MB" = R 307/GB.

Even at 1c per MB this is R10/GB. Now I can buy any international bandwidth (and we are not talking bulk volumes in the 100's of TB's) at R1.70 / GB. So to me this means that SPs still make a massive amount of revenue.

Average prices mean sweet FA...

What is the cost, pure and simple.

Wait they sell 1GB At R99 that's 10C meg on contract so why are they doing it if they say its "between 30c and 40c per MB" why not leave it at 10C meg ffs

Who cares what the price is, what we really want to know is what the real cost per MB is to Vodacom? Then we can make our own judgements about whether or not pricing is fair.

Vodacom are pure turds.

I pay R7.50 for 50mb with CellC versus R25 for 30mb with Vodacom.

15c per MB versus 83c, the OOB rate is also half that of Vodacom's.

No thanks Vodacom.

Eish... My MONTHLY adsl costs is only a little over that and I do 8GB a day
(OpenWeb Gold Uncapped)

It's insane... Get ADSL if you can else go 8ta or something (Is that R1800 for 120GBs deal still available?) - vote with your wallets and stop supporting the vodacom scum.
If you guys keep using them why would they stop?

Work out how much of your cash you are throwing into this money pit every month - it's just not worth it.

Check under promotions

When will the bolt-on data promotion come to an end? At the moment I have the 1 Gig promo at R149pm.

Vodacom has revealed that the average effective price for mobile data on its network is between 30c and 40c per MB – down from 40c to 50c per MB six months ago.

Meanwhile, on Cell C, without jumping through hoops and praying for promotions, the effective, real, ad-hoc and actual price is 15 per MB, for anyone, at anytime, irrespective of the colour of the moon or the alignment of Jupiter and Saturn.

You sure about that?

^this. The article title is misleading, I expected to see what it costs per mb to provision that data.
