Some of you may have followed my post recently about hating Sentech, which i must maintain I dont hate as much as Telkom, but they are crap none the less. Somebody I was in contact with on a nother forum made a valid point. Sentech simply dont know how to deal with customers. After all, they only had only one customer prior to all of this and it is likely that they never increased staff or systems after taking on a massive client base. They seem to be a typical SA company and if that is true, how many times has your company tried to cut corners by increasing its client base through offering augmented products and services without spending on developing infrastructure. There is no villain in all of this, its all about ignorance and assumption.

They need to realise they cant dodge the problems, they can only manage our expectations. Fight for what is rightfully yours and they will have no choice but to give it.

I am familiar with what you describe. I work for an oragnisation that ringfenced a certain support function to form a new company that offers these support services back to us.

We have for the past three years trying to get that message through to them that they aren't doing us a favour; we pay for services they offer.

That the only reason they still have our business is that we are prevented from doing so by higher powers.

They are getting there, but it is a painful process.

Many of the people who do interface with the Public at Sentech (i.e. The marketing management) are former Telkom employees - I rest my case :)

I rest my case with dbnnet.... hey dude, wanna split the costs of resting our cases?

:) ... not yet!
I'm still sticking with MyWireless. This for two reasons that are important to me.
1. I need a good quality Skype connection to the USA - MW is working well for me.
2. I don't want to consider ANY capped serice at this point in time.

MyLow. Sadly, I think this is the same problem WBS are having with the Iburst Launch. Previously just one cleint, The National Lottery, and now 1000's of clients and neither the experience nor infrastructure to handle it.

1. If Vodacom can provide good customer service, even for a new product why cant WBS and SENTECH do the same?

1.1 Do they need an international company to help out, in the case of Vodacom they have Vodafone

1.2 WBS get their equipment from Kyocera why they doing something?

2. How did they manage 700 lottery nation-wide basestations, and fail to maintain 25 iBurst basestations

3. Sorry these was about sentech

1.2 Hmmm - Maybe the reason is that WBS actually bought the equipment second hand, through NEC Corp.

1. To be internationally recognized, you need international standards of customer service. WBS and Sentech does not want (or need to) compete internationally

1.1 If Sentech or WBS had a "big boetie" or someone bigger they want to be affiliated with internationally, then refer to point 1. Other than that, consider both of them resellers of an international technology in it's infancy stages. Much like resellers do today, on the intial uptake they're quick to sell the product, but when said product gives problems, you can't find one to give support for it properly except for those that created it.

1.2 Apparently they are doing something. What that is, is still a mystery. Something they probably got taught by Sentech, "Tell your clients the international engineers are here fixing the problem"

2. Funny you should ask that, I was wondering the exact same thing. I personally spent several hours while my buddy (who owns a seven eleven) struggled with support on the phone to get his machine going.

3. One and the same

The Truth

Sentech came up with the IP Wireless IDEA.

1. They did not have a technical team, so the started another company who emplyed all the retrenched, fired, and retired Telkom Employees.

2. The team they setup had massive ego's to prove and thefore stated the would create a better network then Telkom,

3. There knowlegde was limited to Telkom equipment, service levels.

4. The new technology was a mystery to them, back haul links the used ATM before now had to use Microwave.

5. Telkom has never had a proper bandwidth managment system ! So what would they know about bandwidth !

6. Most of there mates were Telkom people so with ADSL and the proxies left open everyone was happy,

you should hear the rest of the story.
