UCT SRC threatens to occupy Bremner and withdraw from University committees

Bunch of whinebags. The university can dissolve the src or simply suspend problem elements at their leisure. If they disrupt academic functions that is exactly what will happen. These problems would not exist if the src was simply a voluntary entity instead of a bursary program for rabblerousers.

I'm way ahead of you.

With the British gone, is it fair to blame them for laws that continued for over 30 years? Who made and implemented the newer laws?

Based on what was already enshrined and socially acceptable. Is it fair to blame the Afrikaaners? When the predecessors were pretty much similar? What do you think?

Afrikaaners made for convenient scapegoats. But are blacks buying this, or not?

Of course the West also supported the Nat govt here. They had to, because the Soviets could have caused a lot of problems and a Communist SA would be a huge headache.

The Brits made no secret of their vilification of Apartheid and their general disgust of Afrikaners. Case in point would be the "Winds of Change" speech delivered by Chamberlain at SA's independence and forming of republic in 1961. Verwoerd did not dignify the speech with a response.

So this is an interview with the poo thrower from the Sunday Times. Such blatant racism on display as well as a lack of intellectual capacity:

The Afrikaaner government was also anti-British and anti-English. In a sense the regime suppressed many white people as well. This is often forgotten.

Dumb fool got shown up and the best he has to offer is "you wont understand, you are white". Logic does not exist with this one. I wish they would expel him.

I don't see any blatant racism in his words. It merely exposes the fact that he's an anti-intellectual moron who cannot actually make his case... on an intellectual basis. Thus the throwing of poo.

I ran for src in 1st year as a joke but I realized quickly how superficial an entity it is. It really is just "opium for the masses" of newly minted couch politicians. The uni throws them a bone once in a while to make it seem like they matter, but really it's the associated bursary that makes them keep in line. Plus they get bogged down with unpaid admin work to do to make them complacent and unwilling to make a racket. The political organizations like sascoc actually make more of a dent with brainless stunts like this. But they also don't incriminate themselves by claiming responsibility. I may be biased because I wasn't elected in the end :)

I served on the SRC at Tuks a few years ago, the SRC really has no power, soon enough you're stuck with a bureaucracy and institutional culture and then you realise that all the promises that you made to students were tried before and most likely won't materialise. The reality is that the SRC has no saying in the uni's affairs despite what they might believe a 21 year old student does not know how to advise or manage a university.

Well it is certainly prejudiced...is there a difference between prejudice and racism?

He's basically saying you won't understand because you are white. It's like says blacks can't understand maths because they are black.

Well, from the context of the rest of the interview it seems to me he thinks the interviewer won't understand because he's a privileged white person who cannot understand a black person's position.

It's nonsense but I don't think it's racist.

It is extremely racist.

He is assuming that a person of a different skin colour can't empathise.
