The United States plans to review South Africa's eligibility to participate in its Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), the largest and oldest American scheme to allow duty-free imports from less developed countries.

The South African review is "based on IP [intellectual property] protection and enforcement concerns", the Office of the United States Trade Representative said in an announcement on Friday.

Dates for hearings on South Africa's involvement have yet to be announced.

This will be bad for all South Africans, including you and your family.

Not really. We made preparations earlier and can leave on extremely short notice if required. Let's wait and see how the ANC plays this one. But, you are right. It will be bad for everyone.

The fact that you've not left means that you feel you're still better off in present-day South Africa than Plan B, so Plan B must be worse than present-day South Africa. Hence you would be worse off if things got to a point where you'd have to leave.

And added to that:The value of any savings that you might have had would be wiped out in an instant when the Rand tanks ...

You are a special case of stupid. For someone that is so certain that SA will fail, you owe it to yourself and whatever family to get the fck out as quickly as possible.

Nonsense. That's what you want people to think. Just admit it..you're stuck. Probably one of those previously advantaged Eskom/Spoornet/Telkom blue colour okes that failed once they are asked for proof of education.

Hey, look who is back. JustAsk immediately goes on personal attack on Jopie and for good measure, it does it with a double post #NothingNew
Fact of the matter is, under black rule South Africa is quickly turning into a shite hole. Under Trump, America is finally waking up and the ANC brigade is in panic recovery mode. More bad news for SA. It must be Trump's fault LOL

Making assumptions like that is the fallback position of the utterly witless.

Oh charming, so thinking of #1 only. That's exactly how we ended up in this mess.

the sooner we hit rock bottom, the sooner we can all rebuild, which in the long run is good for all South Africans

so yes, pretty please:
- USA, kick us out of any favourable trade deals
- Moody's, stop lying to the world in exchange for bribe money, downgrade us
- Russia, China, whatever underhanded deals you've made with our government terrorists, they will never come to pass, please come and collect on what is owed to you in full, right away

Anything to help accelerate the decline to rock bottom, this almost three decade long circling the drain is bullshyte.

Shortsighted people can't see that the general success of society is good for everyone.

How would you help others if you cant help yourself. Quite simple really. Once you have attained some wealth, one could help others. Nothing short sighted in that.

How does that relate to "Kick South Africa out, I can afford to leave anyhow"?

Easy peasy.

Cyril Ramaphosa has two choices.

First is to scrap the bill and allow the US to guide them in regards to any future bills they want to bring in. Second, continue implementation and SA will be excluded from the PTA and the economy will take a big knock with millions of people left unemployed in a few months. Many more companies closing down and tax payers leaving the country to do business elsewhere where they do not have to reckon these taxes into their pricing.

Either way, with guidance and pressure from the US into doing the right thing or collapsing the economy in total, we can all start building together, as a community, and then decide if we want to go down the same route again.

Now we are a community? A minute ago you couldn't care less because you can leave when you like. Which is it then?

Kick SA out. Imagine what will happen with AGOA when they amend the Constitution and property rights are no longer guaranteed.

You do know that as it stands right now the law in SA includes ALL property rights - your intellectual property, your business etc. It is always just linked to land ownership, when in reality, what they are proposing is that no-one can own ANYTHING at all.
