No, not really :D

It's more of a hissing or a ringing sound.

No, it's not a snake or a phone either :D

Apparently, it is this : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinnitus

Will make an appointment to have the doctor confirm and to see if anything can be done. Very unpleasant.

So how do you deal with it .... I would much rather not have this at all!

I'm listening to mine right now. Started more or less the same time I started my professional career. Can be attributed to stress and high blood pressure. If that's the case then it may subside.

You get used to it but sometimes it does get loud (especially after a night out) but because I'm used to it I effectively ignore it. Gets hard to hear people sometimes if there's surrounding noise as well, so I tend to interpret what was said a lot better than hearing the full thing.

There are some indications that vitamin B is quite effective in treating Tinnitus. There's a company in South Africa that has some herbal remedies that I'd want to try that proved to effectively reduce it significantly or even (if you have a very light case) eradicate it completely.

I can't remember the name now though. But they manufacture their stuff overseas to cut on cost in transportation or whatever.

Have it aswell (so does my dad).

You get so used to it that if you don't focus on it you hardly notice it.

Mine started after I got tick bite fever as a child.

Would really appreciate if it you could post the name of the product when you remember.

Thanks Acid.

This is more common than people think, and if you are in an irritable mood, this will bother you more than other times.

I know a few people who experienced this. In all cases, the doctor said it SEEMS like tinnitus, and chucked some medication at them.

The problem went away, but can't be sure whether it was from the meds or if something else in their lives changed.

Interestingly enough - and not necessarily related - I just came across this:

:D

Coffee making you crazy?
14/01/2009 08:14 - (SA)

Michael Kahn

London - Hearing voices when nobody is around or seeing things that aren't there? Too much caffeine could be to blame, British researchers reported on Wednesday.

Their study found that students who consumed more than the equivalent of seven cups of instant coffee a day were three times more likely to have had these kinds of hallucinations compared to people on a single daily cup.

"This is the first step toward looking at the wider factors associated with hallucinations," said Simon Jones, a psychologist at Durham University in Britain who led the study.

The findings are also the latest in mounting evidence indicating the amount of caffeine a person consumes may directly affect a person's health.

Recent studies have suggested caffeine may lower a woman's risk of ovarian cancer while others have found too much doubles the risk of miscarriage.

Currently, people treated for hallucinations receive drugs or counselling but Jones said his research aims to explore whether changing a person's diet could help.

"This is the first time to my knowledge caffeine and hallucinations have been looked at," Jones said in a telephone interview.

Stress hormone

For the study published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences, Jones and colleagues asked 200 students about their typical intake of coffee, tea, energy drinks and other products containing caffeine. They also measured stress.

Students who consumed the most caffeine were more likely to report hallucinatory experiences such as hearing voices and seeing things that are not there, the researchers said.

The stress hormone cortisol may help explain the link, Jones said. Researchers know the body releases more of the hormone after people consume caffeine, and this extra boost may fuel hallucinations.

They did not ask the students how much they slept.

The next step is to test whether caffeine is actually causing hallucinations or whether people who have them simply consume more caffeine when under pressure, Jones said.

"It may be that those who have hallucinations have high levels of worry and anxiety and that leads them to consume more caffeine," Jones said.

BTW, before mine started being permanent, I used to get it only when drinking excessively and being at a club at night. Usually went away with the hangover. It just started one day for me.

Will post as soon as I remember skattie

I have that too, in the left ear. Have had for years; have gotten quite good at ignoring it. Also, it comes and goes now. And it's sort of a wind in a tunnel sound.

Haven't seen anyone about it; really should.

My easy fix is a silly one, but it works for me. Slight pressure (just a touch, really) below the ear stops it (while touch is maintained, sometimes for a while longer).
