The whole Internet is broken

If the debate about Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter tells us anything, it’s that people — including those in governments — don’t understand how the World Wide Web works.

We know that the algorithms Twitter uses to recommend content can guide people to develop more extreme views, but what is considered extreme has changed since Musk’s takeover.

There is no such thing as free speech there is only a difference of where the line is drawn. Musk as an example has live flight path data on the wrong side of the line whereas most of us would probably put it on the other side of the line.

Total free speech will include hate, bullying, child porn etc but I don't think there are many that would be happy with that being allowed to happen uncontrolled and rightfully so.

Depends what you define as the "internet". Personally for me the internet is the TCP/IP stack on the WAN interface of my router with a public IP address. Everything else that runs on top of that is fluff. If you look at it that way there's nothing wrong with the internet.

so the society has murders, rapes and robberies, then everyone must be locked up by the government?

The problem is NOT just the Internet, it is also politics and many/most governments which are broken. Too often, governments have their own agendas for wanting to censor or manipulate messaging - choices of governments often end up being the least worst of what is on offer... Maybe the Mastodon model on "no algorithms" is better?

No, the internet is not broken. It is working perfectly well. What is happening here, is that the new global communist movement - the Democratic regimes, Socialist regimes and Communist regimes are looking at taking over the internet and controlling every aspect thereof or business operating thereon. They do not want freedom or freedom of speech. They want people to fear what they say, write and do. They want to control what people say, write and do.

This needs to be prevented at all cost.

It is well known that a varierty of social network algorithms work against not only the right wing, but anything remotely conservative, including pre-Elon Twitter (which happened to have had some 50k cp accounts pre-Elon). Intelligence agencies and other government influence are also to be had. Is this article admitting that leftwing views are in fact extreme ?
