hi all. no, its not that bad as the title makes out. I have a few questions which I havent seen asked yet, and as you're all far more knowledgeable than the interwebz I thought I would ask here.

So I have my windows 10 on dvd, but I havent installed it yet. do that matter? or will I get asked to pay for it seeing as 29 july is past.

thanks!

Yes you will pay.

If you installed it on or before 29 July 2016 and uninstalled it, or rolled back to Win7/8, and made sure it was activated it will work without payment next time you install it. That's what I did.

If you upgrade using Assistive technologies it's still free as at 26-09-2016. Best is to do it fast though...

Just upgrade and downgrade then when you're forced to upgrade you will have that free licence. Any particular reason you're staying with 7 though?

For now, you can still use your Win7/8.X key to activate Win10. It still works even though the deadline has passed.

So do the upgrade to Win10, get it activated, and then drop down to Win7 again if you prefer. At least your PC will be registered as having a Win10 activation in case you want it on that PC in the future.

Few days ago I activated a fresh Win10 copy. Microsoft lied to us about deadline.
Copy gatherosstate exe file from CD to the hard drive and run it. After 10 second it will generate a file "genuinueticket.xml". Copy this file to the USB stick, whathever. Then replace hard drive with a spare one, install Windows 10 on it. Google how copy this file to the fresh installation. Activate online, then put back your original hard drive and work as usual. :)
