The worst mistake of my life

I can use all Lan ports on the ont it has 4 Lan ports I tried all 4 Lan ports same result I don't use any special net protocols or vpns. Afriguy and Afrigirl have been pming me and also another representative has been been helping taking this matter into their hands I am very grateful to the help from Afrihost❤️

Awesome! So is it sorted now and working?

Would be nice to know where the issue was.

not sorted yet but tickets have been placed with vuma I hope it works out soon got a few days left with rain 4g if it's not sorted by then I'll have to find another means of connection.

This all sounds like a routing issue.

If it were me, I'd reboot the fibre box-thingy on the wall then reboot the router every 12 hours or so to see if anything changes.

But yes its good your provider is working on it.

tbh I don't really care who's fault it was as long as it gets fixed I'll be so happy lol rn my rain 4g lte is running even faster than what I have and they don't even estimate usage or throttle antyhing the guy that dropped off the router 8 years ago set it up fully and left now after 8 years I called them to cancel my sub they give a month free if only my Fibre was that way I'd be so happy but doesn't look like vuma gives a s***** it doesn't take 4 days to even fix this issue

We don't usually disclose this but we have around 90Gbps of international transit at absolute peak which is idling. Yes that is spare transit and with Vumatel around 400Gbps spare interconnect capacity.

If you are on Afrihost fibre you are on uncapped, unshaped and unlimited traffic.

Our legacy shaping hardware is legacy and support has already ended for it hence we are pulling them out and migrating to the new BNGs.

Openserve was migrated this morning and TTConnect clients have been on these for a while now.
Yea afrihost is the 🐐

Switched a few times early on
Until we tried aftihost

Been with afrihost for years

Made it onto the top 5 list once
And the speed was the same from the first MB to the last one

Is all devices set to DHCP?

Yea maybe a factory reset on the modem sounds like a good idea

Byt yea not sure how vumatel config works , certainly don't want to wipe the config if you don't have the details

If things go wrong , statt with as little as possible ie disconnect all devices except one

See if fine then connect one at a time

How is the internet directly after a modem reboot.

Is there any kinks in the fibre line that connects to the ont?

Have seen instances where people try and tidy up this ie roll in a loop and cause a kink/bend
(they often leave a loop to have some spare incase they need to redo the connector)

I've tried everything today in fact we took a walk around the cable installation to see if anything was faulty or kinks i even went up into the ceiling to check there's no kinks and since electrical cables don't affect optic lines that's not a concern i think it's just vumatel the brother of loadshedding

My 100/50 Openserve line tops out at 140/49 on speed tests... I do not complain. Even torrents run full speed.

Granted, neither of us are on Vuma Reach.
I want some of that. My 100/50 afrihost/openserve caps out at 90/45 ish (usually 42), but I heard thats normal so yeah.

RAIN 4G LTE SIMCARD running faster than my fibre 🤣 anytime i test it on my laptop it's always like this dips to 15mbps during the day but still better i should have just stuck with them they even offered me the RAIN one 5G package for R580 RAIN2.jpg
VS my "fibre" aka 56k modem i'm so frustrated just looking at it 🤣 what a joke

Thats your issue. You need a router, not to connect your devices to an ONT.

so i need to buy a router then connect it to the ONT/Router, then set up the ONT/Router to use Lan port1 as a wan port ?

normally ont devices has 1 port

you can connect a device directly to that port

only one device ie not a switch to many as you get a single ip or instance from isp

The only problem using it this way your pc is open to the www

router acts as a firewall, so normally you would connect a router to this port and then connect pc's to the lan ports
On routers often the wan port is different colour or at least says wan

In your case the device acts as both ont and router and may be able to use all lan ports if only one lan port is active you can connect a lan switch , but only if you know it has a router built in

Router directs traffic so your isp only sees one device the router

it acts as. A middle man

you can connect another router your own inline if you see the router does not like multiple connections

and you can then configure your router as you like

ie wan of your router to lan/internet port on ont , and all your pc's on lan ports of router

so i need to buy a router then connect it to the ONT/Router, then set up the ONT/Router to use Lan port1 as a wan port ?
You don't have to configure the ont

just connect the lan cable from ont to your routers wan

Wan is just an "outside" port

wan and lan are exactly the same type of connection
the only thing that changes is that
The network becomes seperated

ie if you have pc's on ont they won't be able to be part of the workgroup of pc's connected to new router

Before you touch anything, please take pictures of the ONT and router setup. I need to see if what Leon is saying is what's happening....

Thank you @Afrigirl @AfriNatic 😃😄💖 I am very greatful for the help i have received from Afrihost 💖

Everything is working 100% now 20mbps download and 10mbps upload on lan and on wifi even youtube netflix they all are on this speed downloads go through up to 2.3-2.5mb/s tested upload it goes through at 1-1.3mb/s no site is blocked no ports are blocked no connection is blocked all nominal.
