The worth of the MSCE.

I have recently quit my teaching job and have until the end of the year to try and change careers. How good is a MSCE as an entry point into the tech field? The most basic salaries from here are all in line with what I currently earn.

I have enough savings to take care of me until the end of the year and at least also don't have a wife or kids. So if I can ace that qualification this year will it get me a foothold into the It field? I'm thinking of working on a IT Diploma from Unisa for next year as well. Hopefully that will also add value.

I read a lot of things about the MSCE but most of it is from other countries so I was hoping to hear some local opinions.

You probably want to ask this question in the /Forum/IT Discussions/PC Hardware and Gadgets/ or /Forum/IT Discussions/Software/ forums;
The most applicable Microsoft certification for this forum would be MCSD (Microsoft Certified Solution Developer); that being said MCSE is still relevant in South Africa.

Career changes are difficult, especially if this is your first foray into the tech field -- so good luck.

IT? Rather try anything else. Or since you're a teacher, try and get to the UAE. Not sure if its still the case but they are always looking for teachers who can teach in English.

IMHO, mcse and mcsd without any related expect is not worth much. That said, it will be impossible to do mcse (SQL server anyway) or mcsd these days without the relevant experience.
