Only if they have official status.
No in every practical sense, major minorities are are sustainable but minor one's are dead languages walking putting unnecesary strain on their speakers and only temporarily keeping them unique. Eventually all minorities of all kinds get merged with either other minorities or majorities.

But if there was a superior language - it would be Zulu - just saying ...:sneaky:
Any particular objective reason?

Part of why afrikaans survives is because it's such a expressive satisfaction giving language..... even english people swear happier in afrikaans and I have found for some unexplainable reason all woman sound sexier in it..... to everyone.... it's wierd.

So does most "creole" languages. You'll notice I highlighted "almost" in that post.
I know, but your use of the word 'almost' I feel is bit generous to the idiosyncrasies of the modern English language.

Spoken by 12 million native speakers and 16 million 2nd language speakers in SA. If that does not scream superior, nothing else done.
Well it does scream demographically superior yes but not objectively superior. If numbers are all that matters then zulu means nothing in china.

Not to me, to me Afrikaans is a men's language, it just sounds better when spoken by men. I don't find it sexy at all, or at least I don't associate it with my kind of sexy.

your claim is interesting considering that you don't come from afrikaans background at all. It takes a strong man to admit other language's good points.

English is clearly the lingua franca.

Like it or lump it!

Glad my mother tongue is not the lingua franca. It's the global language appropriated by the melting pot that is northern America, with mandated speech in places like Canada. I think with that it loses some of it's authenticity... other languages don't have to subscribe as much to pc culture.
It's an excellent second language to use to communicate on the internet and in business, but fortunate not to have it as my 1st language. It's nice to have a smaller language that is specific to a certain group of people, easier not to step on any toes.

In a society where English is already dominating, there's little chance the indigenous languages will develop well enough to rival developed languages. ....

Interesting statement.

But in India, Malaysia or Kenia per example, english is on the retreat in education, media and as link language.

I wouldn't underestimate the resilience of indigenous lingo
