When u reach lvl 60 u go do raids and belive me u dont wana a ping of 1000. I get +/-500ms in MC and i stil get annoyed at tyms. And pls tel me how is it posible to do pvp wen u have 800 more ping then evry1 else. U get owned. +/-500 is ok but not great.

OK now i come onto our huge 3GB cap.... Many ppl cant afford to have like 6GB caps. so most ppl go for the standard 3GB. Now in WoW u will have to do raids which requires u to either use Vent or TS (voip) which is constantly downloading voice 4rm ur other guild m8s and not to mention u downloading info of 40 ppl fighting their way thru mc. On average i download about +/-280MB a raid. And most active guilds to raids at least 4-6 tyms a week. thats around 1200 - 1800 MB a week! Now in a month thats like 6GB. its crazy! Now 6GB unshaped well might as well get uncapped cus it probly be worth it. So unless telkom do sumfin quickly there is no hope for South africans like us

My Nephew plays WOW on a busy network with a 700 ping on European Servers and has no delay, so he claims.
He is happy.
Just typed what he told me now.
We use ADSL.

Edit. Earlier this evening he was pinging 500 to 620.

Dude, stop complaining. I play on Iburst with around 600-800ms, yeah sometimes it does suck but I managed to get around it. Just adjust your play style. I also almost got to commander in PVP, stopped because I just did not have enough time to play.

Oh you are right about the 3g cap though and vent does chew up those Mbs

I used to play FZFlag in Denmark at 270-350ms LAG when ADSL first came out.

Teklom are LAGGING us on purpose, and they're letting us believe that it's the international line. BUT IT'S NOT TRUE. The 200ms plus delay happens in SAIX.

WoW works just fine on ISDN. Better than shaped ADSL in fact.

Shaped ADSL varies. Peak hours you hit 1000+. Say from 5pm to about 8pm. Steadies out in the 600 - 800 range. Quite playable but but not ideal.

Unshaped ADSL is very similar to ISDN. Anywhere from 350 - 650 depending on the time of day / month. Very playable. 50 would be better, but you can't get it.

I use a 2gig unshaped account for gaming. Never come anywhere near hitting the cap. 3 gigs is plenty. Of course if you also want to download etc (like we do) then you have a problem.

In conclusion, WoW is most definitley not a waste of time in SA. It is playable on ADSL and very playable on unshaped ADSL or ISDN.

I will second that.

My Nephew spends hours in a little world of his own with the Headphones glued to his ears playing WOW.
The only time he moves is when it is food, toilet or bed.

It's the 21st century...children playtime is in front of the pc, not like in our days when playtime was outside...(which is healthier in context of today's society?...is also debateable )

The world adapts accordingly...and so will the kids of today.

My personal opinion, let the kid play, if his folks are okay with it then let him play...at least he is under the parents eye and in a "safer" environment.

He also has every right to complain...it is his experience, and his requirement is not being fulfilled...we all have different requirements and expectations.

I personally can say that high latency gets me annoyed sometimes...especially when I want to assist effectively as I can on runs, but when I hunt on my own I don't have a problem...cause I am not affecting anyone in my team...

The fact of the matter is that we all are not getting the telecom standards that we "can" get. Once this is attained we will all be saying "how the hell did we survive with 1000ms latency"...hopefully sooner than later. !

I personally don't have issue playing wow at all. My normal ping is in the region of 500-700ms and I can PVP and raid with anyone. I also don't see how you get to 1200-1800mb per week playing. I raid 3 times a week with other south-african's and use vent and for a normal 4 hour session in MC my total usage is in the region of 50-80mb.
