These 20 African countries are all set to get Starlink before South Africa

Given that Eswatini is a confirmed launch in 2023 according to the article, I would imagine the satellites would be running across RSA
OK, but then it remains to be seen whether or not it works here. Maybe IP addresses or geolocation will prevent that. Who knows.
I am sure Elon Musk has a way...

Judging by Elons tweets and behaviour I think the 30% notion of BEE offended him. I think his Dad still lives here so we can be damm sure Elon has the inside track of things happening around us.

The South African government with its BEE laws, is costing the economy billions of rands. The sad part is that the only people tha benefit from the latter are politicians and their families and frnds the rest are just pawns in their game.

Do you think that without South Africa, Africa and the world will stand still. ANC wake up the world does not need ur foolishness you are actually the laughing stock of the world with ur stupidity and corruption.

Space link will go on and probably prove to be successful and you will still be worrying about companies being 30% black owned. Elon Musk has proved to u that he does not need you or your country. South Africa as a country is actually deteriorating at a fast paste because of you insolence.

ICASA and BEE.
But we live in a country with 40 million black people. I'm sure there's one with the money to invest....
Though TBH I wouldn't go into business with Elon.
only 0.5% are enriched and are politicians and their frnds the rest are strugglers

Probably not. It has GPS and can enable or disable services based on geofence.
I wonder if the device has that, or if it is IP-address based.

Just wondering if it can be circumvented... surely I should be able to take it across borders if I were to do a travelling holiday across Africa? Satellite phones particularly for that purpose.

Maybe I'm just resting in SA for a long time after purchasing it in Swaziland/Angola etc...

There are quite a few that could. The issue is paying for the 30%, since Starlink doesn't need to gift the 30%.

This leaves buying the 30% at a reasonable price based on the opportunity. If you pay for it, at what price do you pay? Starlink will say what it's worth, and investors may not want to pay that amount for a startup. Or Starlink won't want to sell. How many people in SA are going to sign up for Starlink at these prices, fibre is pretty cheap - I don't see a million potential customers to justify much of a valuation..

Well his dad is a bit of the rails and even married his step sister and they have kids together, I don't think Elon is or wants to be particularly close to him anyway....maybe if he wasn't here Elon would have had a better relationship with SA.

That's just my opinion on the matter from what I've read in the press, I could be wrong.

Are we the only country in Africa with BEE requirements? Other countries in Africa seem to be pulling ahead of us.
