These 20 African countries are all set to get Starlink before South Africa

The blacks of South Africa are protecting themselves from Global Whiteness™

I don't think they know what, or why, they are protecting themselves, nor why they might need protection. Because whatever they are trying to protect has no logical base at all.

Towards the end of '93 a group of ANC youth, walked into a Cafe where I was visiting the owner.

VIVA ANC, VIVA MANDELA all over the place.

So I asked them, "Please can you guys tell me what Mandela's first name is"

Absolutely silence. They looked at each other rather bemused - then one bright spark, with a flash of white teeth, piped up - Release. His name is Release Mandela.

Brilliant.

Are we the only country in Africa with BEE requirements? Other countries in Africa seem to be pulling ahead of us.
A few countries have local ownership requirements/indigenisation laws. Off the top of my head I know of Kenya, Nigeria, and obviously Zim having restrictions/percentage requirements.

Bowmans did a report, but unless you're investing in a particular market it's too complex and changing to really stay on top of for the whole continent.

Well his dad is a bit of the rails and even married his step sister and they have kids together, I don't think Elon is or wants to be particularly close to him anyway....maybe if he wasn't here Elon would have had a better relationship with SA.

That's just my opinion on the matter from what I've read in the press, I could be wrong.
Either way, I reckon the 30% offended him regardless. Covid mandates, WFH, Tax Laws etc, etc. He seems pretty set on his way of doing things.

If I remember correctly he had a bad experience with sarb and the government several years ago about taxes. No rush to repeat. Was several hundreds of millions

Ah, Bheki Cele showed promise from an early age then.

I am not sure Elon will roll out here with the ANC in charge with their AA and BEE policies. No matter if they say "at a later stage". Many companies have partial services in SA and will never roll out in full here.

I got fibre i don't really need that sky pollution anymore.

There is still a very large portion of the population that still do not have fiber. And a large section of the population will never have fiber.

Fiber has been 300 meters away for the last 10+ years, here, and has not moved an inch closer in the whole time period.

And no, I am not a candidate for satellite broadband. Q

Paratus and Twobil

Do they own the satellites or the rent bandwidth from companies such as Starlink. If they own the satellites, do they sell direct to the client, or must the client gain access via a third party reseller.

SpaceX should just sell the service in South Africa regardless of the stupid race laws.

What is the SA government going to do? Raise their fists to the sky?

They’ll confiscate your Dishy McFlatFace for not being ICASA approved. If they can find it / know how to…
