I don't think they know what, or why, they are protecting themselves, nor why they might need protection. Because whatever they are trying to protect has no logical base at all.

A few countries have local ownership requirements/indigenisation laws. Off the top of my head I know of Kenya, Nigeria, and obviously Zim having restrictions/percentage requirements.

Bowmans did a report, but unless you're investing in a particular market it's too complex and changing to really stay on top of for the whole continent.

Either way, I reckon the 30% offended him regardless. Covid mandates, WFH, Tax Laws etc,etc. He seems pretty set on his way of doing things.
 
If I remember correctly he had a bad experience with sarb and the government several years ago about taxes. No rush to repeat. Was several hundreds of millions

I am not sure Elon will roll out here with the ANC in charge with their AA and BEE policies. No matter if they say "at a later stage". Many companies have partial services in SA and will never roll out in full here.

There is still a very large portion of the population that still do not have fiber. And a large section of the population will never have fiber.

Fiber has been 300 meters away for the last 10+ years, here, and has not moved an inch closer in the whole time period.

And no, I am not a candidate for satellite broadband. Q
