I would not hold onto Capitec shares because their PE ratio is just to high. What goes up needs to come down again. I would sell them, IMHO.

If this is the best SA has to offer, then the JSE and any person investing in it, has big, big trouble in future.

Dammit, I bought R20,000 shares in SASOL around the same time. :crying: I’d be so rich:crying::crying::crying:

I remember an old forumite - think his name was Marco - hyping up Capitec around 2012. He got a lot of stick for it from people who styled themselves as "investment pros" (or imitated they worked in financial services).

Which stocks produced similar or better returns in any of the developing countries? I'm curious.

Thanks for telling me in 2002. Seriously though they've probably hit their peak. The market is saturated and analysts didn't take too kindly to their pro competitive measures. SMS was big revenue contributor (which is a bit disgusting to me) and was cut almost in halve as well as people opting for in app notifications.

they have big plans in the business market through Mercantile Bank, which they bought in 2019
two years later and it's still just in the planning stage?

It wasn't Capitec, it was Coronation asset managers. He invested all he had in his pensionone share. He ended up losing money when the bull run ended. He also lost money in CGT whenever he got scared and sold his holding and bought it back again
He didn't understand market cycles, diversification or bubbles.

Note the share price from 2012 to today.
