'Think twice about 'green' transport'

still a dumb debate, because whether you climb on the bus or not, it will still be there every morning at the same time.
But screw that couldn't care less public transports disgusts me.

I agree. Only in the US would they try to justify using an SUV as being in any way 'green'.

Well, Ivan Illich wrote 30 years ago, in his book "Energy and Equity" that the main issue was about speed and distances and not the type of transport. We should design work and play to cut down the commute in the first place, and depend less on going long distances.

The one calculation I always remember (for the US) is that if you took all the kilometres travelled every day, and all the hours spent in cars and on cars (ie manufacturing, insurance, repairs, municipal registration etc), the average speed came out to the same as a person walking!

Makes you think.
