May I ask why you want to go for hypnotherapy?

I had hypnotherapy to help me cope with a marriage break-up. Worked extremely well.

Just to help me get focus in life, motivation and I also have anger management issues that I would like to get a lid on. I'm not a smoker :)

Well a quack hypnotherapist isn't likely to help you with that. Psychologists might...

Or psychiatrists that will dope you up with pharmaceuticals ... but that would most probably defeat the purpose if you are a substance abuser.

Hardly a need for drugs based on what the op is after.

The only benefit I can see the op deriving from hypnotherapy is maybe for the anger management, but then again, psychologists are equipped to help people deal with precisely this issue. Hypnotherapists on the other hand are typically unqualified or dropouts with pseudoscientific woo as a basis for their supposed work. Not all, of course, but most. They are hippie drum circle morons who'd more than likely refer you to their homeopathic shaman as well.

Remember that many decent psychologists can and will use hypnotherapy if absolutely warranted. But it's not a fix-all solution to things...

Oh yes. Anger Management.

Better not become a teacher otherwise you'll murder 3 kids before first break on your first day in my school.

My therapist is a qualified practising psychologist but also specialises in hypnotherapy. I'm just looking for any personal experience stories :) Sometimes placebos are as powerful as the real thing. I'm approaching it with an open mind.

I'd far rather see a specialist dealing in anger management who can perform hypnotherapy if necessary, than someone who claims to be a hypnotherapy specialist with a degree or masters.

There's no masters in hypnotherapy...

The issue here is that there are a plethora of techniques that psychologists adopt, including combinations of them. Hypnotherapy has very limited scope and there is little evidence for it being effective outside of this limited scope. Making the call to adopt hypnotherapy from the outset is going about this arse about face. You've self diagnosed and predetermined a course of treatment.

That really shouldn't be how it works...

This is when people find out about a previous life, eh?

Hypnobirth is popular at the moment with mothers who want a drug free labour. I spoke to two women about it, they said its something that you must practice daily (relaxation techniques, breathing exercise, etc), and they just had good things to say about their experience.

Hypnotherapy must be pretty powerful to help you block out the pain of birth!
