Morning..currently with the red vermon and thinking about moving to TM. I am due for an upgrade soon and the VC deals are just horrendously expensive for so little value. Data drives the new phones..end of, and they are not catering for it.

Looked at a TM booklet yesterday and their pricing is much better, lets say for example for the S4, monthly payment is less and offers more.

My question though is, what is the difference between the 5gig (on telkom mobile network) of data they offer and the 150MB (national data coverage) they mention on the same deal?

Also, what's the coverage like for their mobile phones?

Thanks in advance.

Where TM doesn't have towers they let roam on MTN. So the 150Megs is for when you on MTN, and the 5Gigs when you have TM coverage.

Any experience with the network itself? Good or bad? Versus Cell C for example?

I'm on the same deal for my S4, service has been good form TM, as stated above where there is no TM network I roam on MTN

No issues here, just absolute joy & happiness!

Best thing I did in 2013 to move from another provider to Telkom Mobile.

*Telkom actually has the infrastructure to run a proper mobile network, CellC not.

What area? TM 3G network in Fourways is under heavy strain. I was able to play some online games quite comfortably on TM over December holidays when everyone was away. But since then my latency has risen from 120ms to 300-500ms and download/upload is very inconsistent. By contrast I get 30-50ms local latency on Vodacom LTE at the moment with good bandwidth.

Granted I don't have access to TM LTE to compare as I'm using my Note II with Vodacom and those mini SIM cards whereas my TM is a 3G dongle with standard SIM card.

No issues either - TM coverage excellent in most metro areas. Best part is that even if you run out of the 150MB of "MTN" data, you can buy more easily and cheaply using USSD or the webportal.

Been using TM for the last 1.5 years, no issues at all. As everyone mentioned, move out of TM coverage you roam on MTN. I think their deals are by far the best value for money.

How often do you find that you have to roam though?

In the Metros and Major Towns, rarely. Most of the time you won't even notice that you are switching over to MTN, unless you are on a call, but I rarely find myself on a call when driving out of Joburg on a long trip.

just make sure you have good TM reception to utilize the 5gb data
