Hi Long Story short.

Started on Friday woke to couple of SMS 1st on @ 5:27am that I bought a mobile game and subscribed to a R9.99 thing
Round 8am I got 13 more seams and 13 more R9.99 subs
Between 1pm-2pm got home and got round to phoning MTN
They can't help (other than canceling the 1 active sub on my account that was active at that time)
According to MTN it's between me and the merchant (gave me the contact info)
A company called Gameloft tried to mail them (F^%& Nightmare) not gonna phone a USA based company for a couple of rounds (at that time)
Saturday got an SMS escalated to R20 charges and R20 per day subscriptions (pervert subbed to a place called WA*KTANK)
Phone switched of round 10pm no more seams and Sub consolations I'll deal with it tomorrow (Sunday)
Switched on my phone got 1 SMS (so far) and no Sub (last time I checked)
My Current bill on Friday was just over R700 now 2 days later its almost R1000 (I made no calls and only used Whatsapp for work)

MTN can't block ALL Subscriptions to my contract even though I the owner requested it
I Never Bought Downloaded or Subscribed to any Gameloft games and yes, even WA*KTANK and the rest
So I am Liable for purchases someone made on my account? (no Family member has access to my iPhone or Android accounts)
That's Runing at R200 a Day (whit me constantly cancelling DAILIE subscriptions @ R9.99, R6 and R20)

Nice Service and customer care Make me wonder why I have been an MTN customer prop close to 20 years
LUCALLY my Contract is up for renewal 10 FEB 2108 (NO F&^$ TANK YOU)

In retrospect, why would MTN help me, I'm sure they get 50% of the profit?

So This is MY HONESET opinions why MTN is Stealing from me.

WASP has ALWAYS been a problem. I just don't understand why carriers just don't block ALL by default and you have to opt in if you want to use it. It's been a problem for years and years.

I suggest you keep this code handy *141*5# there is a content option there which you can cancel subs. It won't allow you to block them but you can cancel them instantly from there.

Thanks

The problem is while using *141*5# then option 4 is
You get Active subs thats already active
and pending Yes/No sub you have to activate

so the 1 that needs approving is Fine
The ones thats already acctive is the big problem

There is no way to block it on MTN unfortunately.... You need to port to a network that can block it like Cellc unfortunately....

How can the op's scenario be true without any opt in from his side?

Can someone who holds a grudge against another person and knows their cell number continuously subscribe them to wasp rubbish online and there's nothing they can do?

Yes. So some wasp has bypassed the double opt in situation with the following setup.

1st opt in which they say you clicked a link to subscribe.....
2nd opt in will be either a SMS stating if you do not reply in x minutes you agree to the charges or a call with a voice saying press 9 to cancel or hang up to confirm. Pressing 9 usually does nothing and hanging up opts in.

Had a massive fight with one fraudulent wasp over this. They just said but you did not reply to the sms to cancel...

That's sneaky, I thought they were obliged to have positive opt in, as in you have to reply in the affirmative it can't be opt in by omission which is what your scenario uses?

Sure, they will just say you clicked yes on your browser to verify opt in. That's how f'd up the double opt in system they designed is.

The only opt in that should be allowed is to reply Yes to an SMS, at least the cellular provider will be able to verify such a SMS even happened.

I used to have a contract with MTN which ended in 2012. 5 years later, at irregular intervals they debit my account for amounts between R300 and R700. I am told that since I am no longer a customer they cannot speak to me.

I am told that it must be a) arrears, b) insurance premium, c) a family members contract, d)outstanding fees, e) interest. In other words excuse of the day.

The fellow at the Small Claims Court said that MTN maintain that the SCC has no jurisdiction on cellular providers
