Just had a quick squizz around this new little CrimeCheck tool that News24 has launched. The first thing that jumps out at me is just how screwed the crime stats must be.

Place like Pinetown (the whole suburb area) is classed as high risk, which it is... but the townships of Kwadebeka and Inanda just next door are low crime risk....
Although for Richards Bay it looks accurate. Crime is getting/has been insane here.

I think in broad strokes it probably is accurate, but obviously the generalisation loses some of the nuance and chunks of the detail.

Areas that have multiple suburbs and townships included will project higher, but that crime may be very focused within the township area in terms of violent crime and robbery & petty theft focused in the suburban area.

Just outside the 25% of safest precents in KZN and within the top 50% of safest precents in the country.

The place where I grew up is one of the safest places in the country. However, if the police don't proactively work on the drug problem, I see that status changing in the near future. I'm told nyaope dealers are in cahoots with the police...
You have to solve the underlying problems. There is nothing the police can do other than shift the dealers around a little. The trade is going nowhere.

Pinetown has about 10 different suburbs and areas which each have their own crime profile, some are horrid and others are actually pretty decent.

They must have made some radical improvements in recent years ;)

Ok, I was ticking off suburbs in my head, going no...no...not really...no...absolutely not..no...

;)

Agg come now, stop being so pretentious.... Pinetown has some acceptable areas... Though that does all depend on what you define as Pinetown :p

Criminals usually don't do crime at home.
