This is what a Twitter-verified account badge will cost you

Elon Musk said the premium version of Twitter, called Blue, will cost $8 (R145) a month and will include a verified check mark for paying users’ accounts.

Musk, who acquired the social network for $44 billion last week, said these Blue users would also get priority in replies, mentions and Twitter search, and half as many ads.

You think paying $44 billion for Twitter and then trying to work out how to run it without making a loss is smart?
I am responding to the article headline which is about charging for verified accounts as an additional source of revenue that no other social media platform though of doing. Not writing an essay on his life story and decision making process!

I'm also just commenting on the headline. He paid $44 billion for Twitter and never mind that initial outlay, he's fscking with a tried and tested formula hoping it will work and not run at a loss. So I'm just asking where does 'smart man' come into it?

Well you cannot even begin to plan on how to do turn a company around unless if you are in the captain's chair and have all the information that the CEO would have available? He repeatedly asked Twitter for bot number for example.

You mean he repeatedly tried to use that as an excuse to not have to go through with the deal.

Sure, I've no doubt he consulted and took advice from left, right and centre, but the point remains that he is taking a huge gamble after a huge outlay and now appears to be a little boy lost wondering how to break even.

Twitter has almost never been profitable, so whatever they are doing isn't working.

Going the paid user route and making Twitter the funnest place to have public conversations is how he can turn it into a goldmine. With the way that Youtube has been behaving recently as well, Musk could likely snap up Odysee for pennies and integrate long form video content into Twitter. Boom, he has just combined two relatively small things that can take on Youtube.

Even if he loses every cent he has spent on Twitter he will still be the richest man on the planet. He can afford to gamble.

I know it's a SM media company, but surely running the business via SM isn't a very good way of CEOing, Mr. Musk.

Haha, can't argue with that. And don't get me wrong, I'm all for him stirring things up and watching how it unfolds. Good luck to him.

I don't get the impression that he is lost in any way shape or form.

He's following through with exactly what he's been planning all along.
