Sure, I've no doubt he consulted and took advice from left, right and centre, but the point remains that he is taking a huge gamble after a huge outlay and now appears to be a little boy lost wondering how to break even.
I wonder if it hurt trying to come up with this comment..

He can afford to gamble.
He can also afford to give me a million dollars, but he'd tell me to **** off if I asked, because he didn't get where he did by making reckless gambles. People seem to forget that he had to be forced to follow through with this deal.

I see the media has reduced the 400 000 blue checks to 360 000. I still don't whom provided them with these numbers since Twitter doesn't show this. I see Cnet reported,

Twitter Will Charge $8 a Month for Verified Accounts, Elon Musk Suggests

Blue check marks are seen by some as a status symbol because having one is fairly rare. In 2021, only 360,000 accounts, or 0.2% of Twitter's monetizable daily active users, were verified.

so I am curious how this is upsetting people? Celebrity status must mean a big deal to you.

Then there is Twitter Blue, to quote Cnet,

Twitter Blue currently costs $5 per month but doesn't include a verified check mark as a perk. In his tweets, Musk characterized the current system for who gets a check mark as exclusionary and called it "bullshit."

I agree, the check marks only applied to those Twitter deemed notable which is not the ordinary person.

The $8 problem people have who are not celebrities and not Blue subscribers.

Twitter is increasing the price of its subscription service, Twitter Blue, from $2.99 to $4.99 per month. Starting in October, existing subscribers will have to pay more. New users will currently have to pay the hiked rate.

So the previous decision-makers knew that $3 is too low, and decided on an incremental increase. I am sure that the price would have gone up to $6 in 2023.

I am only surprised that people have gone bonkers about this, people have to put the hate Elon.

Not to ignore that the sub will have regional price parity. For us, it could be R80-100 which is still too much IMHO unless you are or have a business which needs priority engagement.

I don't get the impression that he is lost in any way shape or form.

He's following through with exactly what he's been planning all along.

He went from $20 to $8 in a heartbeat and obviously thought the interaction with Steven King was about money. It seems to me he's making it up as he goes along.

Brah, he was the one initiating the deal. Remember, Twitter didn't want to sell either.

I suspect he was playing games to try and get a better price.

I'm a bit confused, would you just get a blue checkmark then if you give them money or is the payment just an additional thing atop the verification? If you can just pay for a checkmark then it's a bit pointless, at least it changes the meaning of what the checkmark is.

Musk is in the view that all blue tick members must also become paid subscribers. There is already Twitter Blue which is now under review to incorporate the changes. People who are 'important' will have a secondary tag to express that authority to the public.

lol... people not going to pay that... it's not worth it.
They will just abandon the verified status. It's not worth it.
Ultimately this move will hurt the brand.

Indeed. People generally spend thousands on the latest phone and resent paying $1 for an app.

They will just abandon the verified status. It's not worth it.

I tend to agree. The blue tick is a benefit to Twitter, not the celeb. It is there for the famous types so that us commoners don't get strung along thinking we are talking to Charlize Theron when it's really some spotty schoolboy in his bedroom in Pofader.

Of course people will pay it...that little blue tick is worth too much for their narcissism. People spend thst at Starbucks on the way to work every day...

We shall see... this is the beginning of the end. Social Media is fickle... people abandon platforms quickly.
Especially when they become partisan.

If only 20% of total twitter users pay $8 a month, that is an income of $366 000 000+ a month. 10% = $183 000 000

He'll recoup his money, it's only a matter of how soon.
