The verified accounts if you followed, is because it was only selected people who got verified which were selected by twitter. If given an option to verify by paying, that number would explode... It's logic xD. You can now Verify yourself as Piet Peester and pay $8 for that right... duh

An interesting point I read was that the right can air their (extremist) views anywhere and they certainly do on their own websites and forums etc, but they also need the left to listen, react and argue back and that is what Twitter is for. So if the right get their voice back and the left leave, then Twitter will suffer and eventually die or fade to insignificance.

Good point, but you still aren't getting more than a fraction of people clambering to get verified. You're more likely to lose people than gain.
