This South African tech and gadget store promises 1-day standard delivery - We put it to the test

With many physical retailers forced to close their doors due to the initial COVID-19 lockdown regulations, online shopping has boomed in South Africa.

A source close to South Africa's biggest ecommerce retailer Takealot previously told MyBroadband the company was generating close to R1 billion in sales per month – around double its usual volume.

Online payment platform providers like PayGate and PayFast also confirmed they had observed a substantial increase in sales since unlimited ecommerce was allowed since the end of May.

Pretty decent article.

Actually makes me think I will give them a go, I always thought they were some chinese banggood / bidorbuy dropship knock off.

I can honestly also say that GeeWiz is the underdog - everybody thinks they're dodgy but they really do give superb service.

I was looking for an HDMI to VGA converter for a Raspberry Pi. Found something on the Geewiz website but it didn't have active power (i.e. it relies on the HDMI port to supply power to convert the signal). Contacted Geewiz and said I needed one for the Pi and they got back to me quickly with the correct link. Bought it and works beautifully!

Have also received all my packages within a day, and even once within the same day (bought a mini-UPS just as loadshedding started -- paid before 10AM and got it 15:00 that same afternoon).

Initially started using them when they were still run from a house is Norwood. Always had great service and I'm glad that their service hadn't deteriorated as they've scaled up.

yep I had been buying from them for a while no issues but I had a return that was pretty much almost out of warranty (almost a year after i bought it) - they took it in and no issues (like a day or 2 later called me back) agreed it is a failure they will cover but item was no longer in stock so they offered a refund - They had something else in stock that i wanted that was a bit more than the refund so i told them i'll take store credit and pay in the difference - they said no :) they will give me the item i want no extra cost they even wanted to ship it same day - I said No i need to see you guys in person you can't be real :)
go there check this old school house in norwood these okes operating from the cottage on the side.

1 of the 3 orders that I placed last year went horribly wrong. The Chromecast 2 that I ordered was delivered almost a week late. They shipped a Version 1 instead of the 2 that I ordered. It took about 2 weeks of back and fro, with various cancelled and missed deadlines to get the wrong unit returned before they would ship the correct item, then eventually they were out of stock and I had to wait another week for my refund.

So yeah, nothing will go wrong... go wrong... go wrong, until it does

Have known about them for a while but it's like they don't have consistent stock. You see something and bookmark it and next time when you want to buy it it's gone. So more like a gadget store than an everyday store you can rely on.

Things will absolutely go wrong with any place, but the balance of odds is that GeeWiz are the best at getting it right IMO. Based on my experience of course.

Well, I have never had such shoddy service from Takealot, BangGood or Loot. Makro and my story above are another story, however. Unfortunately, 1 bad experience leaves a bad taste for a long time...

That has also been my experience. Load something up to buy the next day and then there is no stock.

I can honestly say Geewiz is one of the most awesome companies I've ever dealt with. In buying and after sales. I really hope they continue to excel and as they grow over the years they find a system that works well.

Well done @GeeWiz

I hope all my 'customers' with a Mecer Inverter are also very happy with their service. :p:p:p:p
I know there were some wiring issues now and then but hope it was sorted out swiftly. If not, sorry for the inconvenience they have caused. :)

Sure, and the few who do may never buy from them again, but I'd hazard a guess that there are fewer of those in GeeWiz' case than other retailers.

Communication with the personnel is excellent. Had many emails answered within minutes after posting in a professional and knowledgeable way.
Deliveries were always as promised and often faster than promised.
